Bose Knives

It's been a while since we posted a cotton sampler and this one in ivory and hand-rubbed ATS-34 blade by Tony is another great example of his attention to detail in reproducing a great, old pattern.

Thanks for posting this one Kerry. It is certainly a showcase of talent and workmanship. I have often imagined that the Cotton Sampler is one of, if not the, most complex of all the traditional blade profiles. It is a study in geometry. After finally prying my eyes off of the grinds I notice some pretty cool ivory as well! Just incredibly, awesomely, fantastical! Congratulations Tony as I am sure pride runs deep in this one.

Cnasty is going to have a heart attack, his favorite pattern, (I think) and in Bose ivory as well. Thanks for sharing.

You are correct sir. Campbell gets weak kneed over the cotton samplers. I think he needs a girlfriend. :p

Kerry, I see one photo and a bunch of red Xs, but the one I can see is incredible!

REFRESH! Hold the "Shift Key" down and hit the "Reload" button. Take two aspirin and call me in the morning. Void where prohibited by law. Your mileage may vary....etc. etc...

Man...that is some of the best ivory I've ever seen and you guys are right....my favorite pattern!!! Too bad I have this silly old jigged bone Sampler from Tony (joke)

Tony says this is going to be a one of a kind by him. It's not natural to use a doghead shield in anything but a "Dogshead Knife" but he made this one exception for a good friend who lost a cherished member of his family...a golden lab named Dixie.

If someone sent me one you'd better believe I'd find a bale of cotton to cut some samples out of. :D

I wish I was in the land of Cotton. . . Old times there are not forgotten, Look awayyyyy, look awayyyy, look away Dixieland!

Loverly bit o' machinery that one!!

And that Dixie Dog's Head - a bittersweet memento for an old dog lover. I'm sure it'll bring back fond memories!!

Thats perfect and beautiful.Sorry to hear about Dixie,RIP,,our pets are like family members, for sure.
Merry Christmas

Campbell, as the owner of multiple Cotton Samplers, perhaps you could tell me about the blade profile. Why is the first part of the blade left as nearly full thickness stock ?
Living up North here, there's no cotton to sample, but we do have knives for sampling cotton's competition, Hemp plants, loosely called "Budder knives".

My understanding is that it's used for rolling the sampled cotton fibers against as one test of their quality. I assume they do the same thing with the side of a fixed blade cotton sampler, but it would have a wide enough blade that it wouldn't need a special flat edge-free section.

That Dogleg Jack is my new favorite. Love the clip blade!

That being said, the knife ain't been made yet that I would trade a good dog for.
RIP, Dixie.
