Breathe Easy respirator with rechargeable battery for a SCREAMING DEAL.

Razor-edge, if you had to wear a pair of glasses under that mask, would they fit without issue?
Also, how are you wearing the 'air pump' part of the system, and oh yeah-as someone else asked, will that mask hook up to the hose include in this package this post is about, or do you need new hoses or anything?

Yes glasses would fit quite easily and be very easy to work with due to the flip up visor (no finagling trying to get your gas mask on over your glasses!)

This is how I wear it currently... on a belt. But they do make a back-pack for it too.

I'm following this closely as I ordered one yesterday morning as well. And yes, thank you JT for the heads up! :) I still desperately need a spark bong style dust collection system to keep my shop from being caked with grinding dust, but at least I can finish a few projects that I really need to get done by wearing this... hope it works! :panda:

PS, in case myself or others have the same problem with the dirty prongs can anybody name some brand of electrical safe oil and where to get them, like Home Depot, Lowes, HF, Amazon? Just curious also if any of the main spay lube/oils fall into this category such as Ballistol, WD40, Liquid Wrench, Frog Lube, 3 in 1
etc? ;)

Thanks for sharing your updates fellas, keep 'em commin. I'll make sure to post my experience too.

I use this stuff... I think wd-40 may work though, just google it I'm sure you can find something.

Josh, thanks a lot for the feedback, the pics are great BTW--I think this thing is a step forward in respiration management for us blademakers!

You can get dielectric grease at any auto parts house. It's what they use to coat auto light bulb and other connections. I have used it to coat battery terminals when cleaning or changing. You may even be able to find very small, single use foil packets of it, especially at AutoZone, etc.

Good luck!

You can get some electrical contact cleaner at most of the big box hardware and auto supply stores, or in the aformentioned sections at some of the larger grocery stores. Any brand will do about the same job, and it dries/evaporates after you spray it on. Any tough gunk can be removed with some fine steel wool or sandpaper, or really any metal and plastic safe solvent.

Mine was plugged in all night and the light is still on. I noticed my plug was a little dirty was well I might clean it and maybe that will help charge it a bit faster.
After cleaning and getting the light to finally come on, I left it on the charger for 22 hours and the light never changed. Possibly the instructions were for a different version. I tested with a multimeter and it showed 5.64 volts. Instructions said that it should be at least 5.0 volts, so it appears everything is working properly. 👍

WaltE99, I worked in the rechargeable battery industry for many years. Two things I can tell you is 1. Mfgs hose their customers big time on the pricing of battery packs. 2nd, the same mfgs spend a ridiculously low amount of money on R&D for chargers.

Most chargers are a basic transformer that outputs a current at a level the intended to be charged battery will accept. Only at the very end of my time in the business did the major mfgs start actually developing truly quality chargers--a lot of that had to do with the introduction of NiMH (nickel metal hydride) battery technology, and the fact that in an overcharge situation Nickel metal Hydride cells will off-gas hydrogen--in fact early in the lifespan of NiMH cells, several cell phones around the world burst into flame--always in a hot ambient temperature causing off-gassing of hydrogen.

The leading technology for about the last 12+/- years has been Lithium Ion cells--these are not ideal for high drain rate applications--such as power tools--but the mfgs. have developed circuitry to optimize the use of Lithium Ion cells even in power tools. Long story short, the basic charger that comes with these systems is most likely a simple straight transformer putting out a current level that the batteries involved can accept. If you are winding up with a charged battery, that's all that matters--the optimum charging situation is that as soon as your battery is fully charged, it is withdrawn from the charging current. If you can play around with leaving it on your charger for shorter and shorter periods, and still get what you consider full charge performance, than the shortest time you can leave it on the charger would obviously be the best.

I have seen some pricing on replacement batteries for these systems, and they are outrageous--I can assure you that I will be talking to some battery VAR's (value added resellers) about whether or not they can replace the cells inside of one of these battery packs!!

Best luck to us all--Don

Thanks. Good to know. I guess I should have tested the voltage before I went bed. It hadn't been on the time needed for full charge according to the instructions, so I figured leaving it overnight would be OK. I'll know better next time!

There are 3 differnt batteries and 2 different chargers for these units. The NiCad charger is small with a single red LED which just indicates its' charging and no status, the other style has a huge charging unit which has green yellow red indicators blinks etc. the 3rd type of battery is not rechargeable and is for emergency use / hazmat conditions where the whole unit is thrown away after use.

I have a complete kit with nicad battery and charger, the vest/bag, mask and blower unit which is extra to me that i might part with, particularly as unfortunately the mask does not fit well over glasses, and I now use the same unit but with the 3m Bumpcap helmet (smililar to the one posted above)

With regards to these batteries, they're very close in voltage to USB rechargable batteries, and there are instructions out there, for when your expensive giant 10 hour batteries finally give up the ghost, to convert them to use the type of battery people use to charge their phones with when traveling. They dont last 10 hours, but most of us arent grinding for 10 hours straight either.

Wow -- all 5 gone in 2 hours. If any of you wanted one, try contacting the seller. I emailed him a few days ago and said I wanted 2, and he was kind enough to give me a message the moment he posted more so I wouldn't miss it.

Great price for em, lots less than I paid a year ago =) I bet they were purchased in bulk for a hazmat or biohazard emergency supply and are being liquidated because they're now 15ish years old.

I have emailed back and forth with the seller starting when my original charging issue came about. I asked about the effectiveness of the filter cartridges with them being so far out of date. Seller said that an ambulance company in his area was purchased by another company and had a bunch of these because there is an arsenal located there. He indicated they told him that because they were sealed, the cartridges should be OK. I don't know about that but I'm not too worried since I don't anticpate being exposed to whatever toxic fumes these protect against. They should be fine for particulates.

How are you getting ahold of the seller? I've contacted the seller twice since the first link was posted asking about more and not getting an answer. I see they've let others know when they would be posting more.

I contacted the seller through ebay's 'contact seller' link on the seller's info page. I got no response for 2 days, but then when he/she posted more, he/she sent me a quick message to let me know.

Re: filters pasty expiry date, I was already anticipating having to buy a set of 3 p100 filters since the listing was for a NOS system, although I plan to call 3m first to discuss how the FR-57's it comes with do with particulates and whether the expiry date matters. I believe the correct set of 3 p100's can be had new for ~$52+shipping (when you search, note that many sellers sell only in packs of 6 or 12 and this often isn't marked in listings).

I also contacted through eBay. I guess since I was reporting a problem, he didn't want a negative feedback and messaged me back fairly quickly.

Re: expired cartridges. Please post when you speak with 3M. I don't know much about these but I thought P100's were the odd shaped filters that go into the respirators that you can get at Lowe's, etc. and snaps with a 1/4ish turn. Does 3M make a full screw-in version for these masks?

Just received mine in the mail, and for $75, it doesn't look like a bad set up at all. I can get a good seal on the mask, even with a beard, and I don't think I'll have any fogging issues. The battery is charging now.

One thing I will say... that mask is not made for guys with big heads. It's a little on the tight/small side. It'll work for now, but I may see about trying to upgrade sooner or later.

well. Fits good but feels a tad bit small, I think the ticket is the mask with the hose on the back. But as it is it keeps the black out of my nose and lungs. I have had zero fogging and it's so nice to have a nice cool breeze on your face. Onley problem I have is some times my nose is stuffy and I breathe through my mouth but with the way the mask fits it pushes up on my chin.
Yeah I'm leaning that way as
