Buck's Kustom Knife Shop IS still OPEN!

I have a few of the CS 110s from when they were bargains. I had planned on getting a special one for my upcoming 50th B-day -- I was going to have it engraved. With the recent changes at the CS, I no longer plan to get one. :(

I am sure it is some setting in my pc, but the custom shop stuff won't load up for me using Internet Explorer. Had to use this Flock (netscape evolution) brouser to get there.

just a fyi

It probably coughed up a hairball when it saw the CS prices and tried to save you from 'sticker shock', PR.

I'm really surprised that with the amount of comments regarding these changes, we haven't heard any input from the powers that be at Post Falls.

They historically will not ,have not, input into this type of thread.

He is Head of Customer Relations at Buck.

I think that's who were supposed to go to isn't it?

I doubt that Joe Houser has anything to do with pricing...So telling him that you/I/we are unhappy with the new Custom Shop prices isn't going to do much good...

But if you can corral CJ or Chuck at the BCCI Celebration and chew them a new butthole...then go for it!!! :D

OTOH...Joe has stated in the past that Buck (the corporate entity) is interested in our feedback...

So...Here goes my email to Joe about the new web site... ;)

I can understand them wanting to keep a semi-neutral position on certain threads, and obviously they don't really owe anyone an explaination on their business decisions.
There are still some versions available that really aren't priced that bad.
However the huge price increase on the more exotic versions will, I think, put them in a completely different league... For that kind of money, I would expect prefection. And to be quite honest, some of the LE or Custom knives, that I have seen in the past were far from perfect.
However, at the price you could buy one for, the small imperfections were not that big of a deal..
Will they be willing to spend the extra time needed to achieve this level of quality ?????
Well enough on this subject, I think I'm going to go pickup a new 112 FG for under 40.00.. Still a lot of knife for the money. JMO
People got used top the idea of Buck knives coming from oversea, I'm sure this will settle down in time too.....

I can't understand the jump in prices ,mirror polished 420 hc is now $30 ,BEFORE IT WAS 0,sambar stag is $228 just for the handle material?C'mon, its a little much for the average Joe to pay for a 110 custom i think.

I sure am glad ebay is out there and i got some off there, the custom shop is a thing of the past for me,I love the quality ,but price gouging from any company, buck knives or not,i don't tolerate.

OK folks, let's read my post a little slower please.

I never said Joe had anything to do with pricing, BUT as Head of Customer relations, he is the person to talk to is he not?

I am not blaming Joe for the price increases, just pointing out that he is the liaison between customers and their feedback, and the higher ups.

WOW for a sambar stag damascus 110 you will pay $576,can someone tell me what the heck happened there?I know at those prices i can't afford any of the customs.

...As I said earlier...I agree with BCCL. Who better to express the total disbelief in the Custom Shoppe price travesty to or the displeasure with the reformatted website that has also been expressed than to Joe? We've never been afraid to let Joe know about things that "bugged" us before or about things that we thought made Buck so great...why should this be any different? Just be prepared to learn that he can't do much about our concerns as much as they've hurt us as a group. There may still be individuals here who'll be easily able to afford those prices so I remain pessimistic that Buck will do anything for the "group"...Joe is the only one on the front line available to us here and unfortunately he is also the one to express your thoughts to on this ridiculous Custom Shoppe move...:(

Does the custom shop ship overseas? If they do, then the power of the Euro (weakness of the dollar) explains how the custom shop can jack the prices. Just because "we" have a problem with the high prices doesn't mean that others do as Darryl stated. Anyone know if they ship overseas (like Canada:))? I still don't get the elk price....oh, Joe is an elk hunter.

bold is mine were i agree,,, thoes that have ears to hear let them hear... dd
yes it did hurt a lot to see i would not be able to afford custom knives any more.

well yes, Joe is the one to address, part of his job as i am sure he would say.
and yes historicly they wont interject in to this thread...HOWEVER!!!
do not make the mistake of thinking they are not reading this thread!!!
none of them are dummies nor so unconcerned as to NOT read what we say.
picture a bunch of kids.. they play and pinch and tease each other and hollor for ice cream stag and supper steel cake! if one gets too rough or down right ugdly they can be corrected with a move or a deleat action...mostly they amuse the watchers...and like any watcher of kids they learn also what the kids will and will not eat (buy) or do (recomend)...
as mods they can be ghosting like a sitter at a day care...
watching as we type and we wont see them..
mods have powers like the great and powerfull OZ!
but have no dought they were wateing and watching for the not yet ripe bull furtlizer to hit the fan...and if i were them i would expect to recive emails ,,,lots of emails experssing displeasure with priceing...
and like wise they know we are always tuned to any word from
Buck Mountain!
recall they did not step in to the fray on a choice for a bcci 20 year knife..
but again have no dought they were watching it...i could feel their eyes on my key board!
and likely they were amused at the clammering over which supper custom !!! and wandering what that darn decaff dave was starting!
on much thought i belive the orgional intent was to have some kind of existing knife for sale at a supper club price but nothing spechal- my error...
but it did give then an idear of what we said that we want and would
PAY for...could we have brought this on our selves???? gasp!!!

so yes Joe is the point man on complants as well as complements... and i will tell you ... in all the conversations i have with him i KNOW that
JOE is also a collector like us, so he realy feels with and for us,
i have personaly heard him say so abet slighty diffrent wording...
and i think you all are right ... i dont think that is in his responability base... so...i dont think he had much imput in to the priceing...

i am certan that he was aware there woud be lots of elk or stag furtlizer to spare..

i said in an earler post that i felt that the custom shop may should not run the profit leves as the rest of the plant...
i am working through the reasoning for that for a post
but in the mean time ...
can any of you reason out why i say that..?
man i need a drink...

Yep. His title his "Director of Consumer Relations".
This is not about "Joe" on a personal level...but his job.

I think we are all in agreement that he is a stand up gent. But, so far as his job goes; you buy the land, you get the indians.

He may not be able to change anything relative to this, but he is our voice and the frickin' tribe is pissed.

...I can type like nuts and beat the keys to death but no one can say it better than the "goosemeister"...

I went out o the deck, grilled up some venison steaks ,came back inside ,looked at the buck website and said to myself, why?why would they do that?Am i at a crossroads here,or do we buy BUCK knives for the quality and value?I do anyways.

I know Joe will chime in on this and give us some insight as to what is going on with the jacked up prices.

At those prices ineed to move up to the wheelhouse and off the deck to buy anything?

Will this be the downfall for buck collectors everywhere??????????/

Tune in next week .........................

...RAZORBLADES...I don't think that those of us who are collectors or accumulators of Buck knives in general will be too affected by the harshness of their move...it's those among us who are collectors of Buck Custom Shoppe knives that may see a significant reduction in their numbers. The Custom Shoppe is not and never has been necessary for the success of the company. It's just that it turned out a small number of items of great interest to the most ardent group of supporters of the "COMPANY IN GENERAL"...This small group of enthusiasts has never failed to talk-up Buck knives to anyone who'd listen and at times even those who wouldn't. It's those who are being locked out by a move of this scope...I still love Buck knives...unfortunately I won't be able to bolster my accumulation much from this point on...:(

It's quite possible that the Custom Shop was taking valuable resources away from the mainstream product line...Mainly people, time, materials, and machinery...

Jacking up the prices (and the resultant dropoff of Custom Shop orders) will be an excellent reason for closing the Custom Shop down and redistributing the resources to where they should be...On the production line...

Buck is finally being run by the people who should have been in charge in the first place...The bean counters...:thumbup:
