Buck's Kustom Knife Shop IS still OPEN!

From an accountant's view this may make perfect sense but there is big fan base here that acts as quasi P.R. people for Buck. Sometimes actions as these can leave a bad taste in peoples mouth and ruin a sense of family.
...So true Robert...and that is basically the gist of this entire thread. We all knew that the Custom Shoppe wasn't supporting the financial health of Buck in any way. It was, however, feeding a very ardent bunch of enthusiasts who made it a constant mission to extol the benefits and virtues of Buck ownership.
Buck might be making a change in their business target acquisition program with someone suggesting a different method to get their product out to the masses. The masses have incredible wealth to expend and little need for exotic steels or scale materials. The group of enthusiasts, who were their loudest supporters, directly affected by the changes we've seen are a miniscule portion of these masses and as they don't have a direct affect on the bottom line...they can be expendable...So sad...:(

Different perceptions i guess.
To me bean-counters are the corporate accountants and executive types who decide "hey we could make 5% more profit if we close down our North American factories and set up shop in Asia".

Perhaps the Custom Shop is destined for China along with some of the current "slippie" production. Boy, talk about a long wait!!  :(

...D...There may be some credence to that thought...The "world's" money seems to have a lot more spendability than does our's in the current economy and it's welcome here no matter who ultimately pays the price...

Along with the jobs being shipped overseas the burgeoning Chinese economy has caused the price of gas has shot up giving a double whammy to those who are struggling. That will cause manufacturers to seek cheaper labor to compete for the American dollar and the downward spiral begins anew.

...That being the case...There will be a lot of smiling owners of new Buck Customs at today's new prices...in China...in Japan...in Germany...etc...

Perhaps we can somehow convince Buck to provide a discount at the custom shop for BCCI members. Wouldn't this serve both purposes? Since we represent such a minuscule portion of their customer base, it won't affect their bottom line but will let them charge more to the general public who are more or less one shot buyers. This maintains their hidden "PR" machine.

...Nice thought Mike...Perhaps if that were something done "solely" through the BCCI website, which is available only to members, it may have been feasible...Even the mention of it in a public forum gives me the "willies"...But then why would Buck even entertain an idea like that??...

As for the title of the thread, that Buck's Custom knife shop is still open...

Well, maybe so, but its customer profile has sure changed.

And it changed very quickly - without any notice to loyal Buck knife and especially Buck Custom Shoppe customers.

So now, just guessing, the second hand Buck market sales will follow suit and sky-rocket too? Are my Buck collecting days numbered? :(:grumpy::confused:

:(...I really don't have a very good feeling about all this Scott...as the old saying goes..."The silence is deafening"...:(

What a bunch of old women!!! Everybody's been whining about no Custom Shop web site...Well, you got one now!!! :D

So what if the knives are 5 times what Buck got for them two months ago??? *Somebody* has to foot the bill... :)

So pull up your socks and cough up the shekels!!! ;)

Myself, I'm buying Case from now on... :foot:

I'm afraid you are right Scott. We all have many of the knives that they have seriously raised the price on. Could make $200 profit and still undercut the CS by $100.

Its gonna be really interesting the next few weeks. Better keep an eye out at wally. I wouldn't bet against the CS being the beginning.

I think that my Buck collecting days are numbered too, Scott. You know, I just can't say how disappointed I am with these price hikes. This year I was going to shoot for a whole herd of customs, but not now. :(

Looks like the Buck Custom prices have gone through the ROOF ! Should be good for reducing the turn around time as I'm sure the order volume has been reduced.
