Bunny Knife 2022

I have a 001 of my own knife, but a couple of times during my life, I've been offered a pic of serial numbers, and couldn't think of anything!
In those cases I may suggest any date/year significant for you. Or maybe for some close friends or family members, and then maybe gift the knife to them.

From all my "knife experience", only thing better then having great knives is to gift great knives to great people. I specifically enjoy to gift a person who is not into knives at all with something unique, i mean not necessarily expensive and fancy, though decent, and something they most likely would have never encountered in their life otherwise, even if they happen to visit some local knife store. That joy of giving is truly something special.

As frustrating as flippers are, it does seem to be the case that of the 500+ knives that get produced and sold, only about 10-15 get flipped. That's 2-3% of the buyers, which, compared to the mass of human depravity, not a bad number for Bladeforums members. Even if I'm off an the number is 50 (which is very high), that's still only 10% of the buyers who are trying to turn a profit. There is a silent (well, some of us aren't so silent!) majority of fine folks who are just grateful to get a great knife that reminds them of the fellowship of a really great knife forum.

I'm afraid serial numbers won't help at all (It doesn't take that much intelligence to work it out why, all it needs is a bit of photoshop and we'll be banning Charlie for flipping his own personal knife! :D That is if they even bother, far easier to simply pinch pics from the threads for ebay use - ban everyone!) though of course it's a nice touch for the owners.

Personally I've bought and sold a forum knife (the CSC one), at a substantial loss, the second one (Buck) I gave away to a pal, it wouldn't even sell. I have the hutzpa to immediately have the blades reground, albeit by a pro (me likey thin BTE) for actual use, and that kills any kind of second hand value. Especially as the etchings often don't survive. Every single GEC and even Northwoods I've sold has been at a loss for this same reason. I really like this Bunny Knife, the looks, the blade choice, the ebony, etc but I keep coming back to my distaste for 1095 as a user. I'll let someone else enjoy it. I'll stick to my SAK's. I really do love their sheer utility oh and they never ever patina or give weird tastes to my apples. :D

Yeah, but would the buyer be happy after seeing the number is different from one on the pictures? Seller would have to reveal the actual number anyway, in private message or something. The question is who is going to do all the interrogations...

It's true, a few knives will be flipped and there's not much to be done about it. (and when I'm in a forgiving mood, I remind myself I don't know someone else's financial situation. Maybe they really really need to sell their knife at some point down the line) As long as there's not a lolly scramble leaving out long time regular members.

I've sold a few forum knives to fellow members here. (at my cost, or less if you factor in shipping and fees) they went to folks who wanted them as users, but I know I don't have control of what happens once they aren't mine anymore. So after a few years one wouldn't know if an ebay seller is the original owner anyway.

I’m not sure if I was the first but when I asked for #007 I was kidding. I’ll be happy with any number. It’s all about the knife and most importantly the labor and love Charlie and Bill are sharing with us. 🙏

Oh I know it was all light hearted humor about certain numbers and poking fun of the serial #666, I didn’t intend to call anyone out who was having that discussion, I just pointed out that a flipper either won’t care about the number or they’ll specifically target certain numbers as having more “value” because a number has a little notoriety, albeit there is very few I’d think.

I hope you do get 007! If I end up getting a knife and see it, I’ll let you know 🍻

(Hopefully you’ll get 119 and we can trade! Hehe)

Good points, all. With older forum knives I have less heartburn because the value of a limited edition knife accrues over time. No one is selling a vintage knife from the 1930s at its original cost, so it isn't really just to expect someone to sell a forum knife from 2009 at the 2009 price, even though that would be a sporting thing to do. And those things do cycle through more hands as the years go by.

I gift a lot of knives :) In fact, people I barely know bring their kids round to my house with their hands out! :D ;)

I think everybody knew that! :D I did have a guy asked me for #007! :D He got it too ;)

I'm not surprised at the prices they're asking!! 🤣 ;)
The foreign concept to me is the buyer. Spending $4,5,6,...hundred for an item for a group that I am not a member of? Not for me, it would be like wearing a race shirt from a marathon I did not run.
STOLEN VALOUR!! 🤬;)

Ohh....THIS is where the bunny thread rabbited to!

Still hoping this comes to fruition this year, even if I miss out.
