Bushcraft Knife Challenge results!!!

Congrats to the Top Five:thumbup:

I'm glad to have been around to watch this competition play out. All the makers were very cool and courageous for sending in their knives to be judged.

A special Thank you to the judges, the amount of time you guys spent to do a thorough evaluation is just astounding. Great work:thumbup::thumbup:

Oh yeah, Congrats Ray!!

Congrats Bruce and the rest of you guys! This was an awesome contest. I'd say you all won. I really enjoyed following it and the testers did a great job!

Tony ....... you scored some sweet tools!

I think every knife maker that entered is a winner. Pick 3 other testers and the results would have been different. A knife is such a personal thing, and allot how the knife performed came down to how each individual tested it.

This was a fun competition and nothing more. The makers deserve all of the thank you's and congratulations. They put this together and each knife is a winner.

I just hope some of the feedback we gave was worth a damn, and the makers feel it was a worth while event.

Congrats to everyone for submitting their knives. And of course a special thanks to the judges for their hard work ;)

Thanks to the testers for all the hard work, it was a cold winter, which added to the fun I bet! congrats to the top five, 5 VERY nice knives...thats for sure!

Congrats to all and many thanks to the testers! Been some great reading and viewing.

Now, may I have one D Philips, a Marchand and a Ban Tang please? :)

hmm, 1070 wins in edge retention. Obviously this whole test is rigged :D :D :D

Actually, this just confirms my ignorance and false confidence about 1070 must be mirrored in my the total lack of understanding about metallurgy of the three reviewers here. Lets get with the picture guys...There are charts and crap that tells you what the best metal is for edge retention!!!!!!! Don't let the data get in the way of a chart produced by a company who sells a certain kind of steel..

Okay - nice quantitative summary. I think if I have time this week I'd like to run these numbers through some multi-variate statistics (principle components analysis) to see which categories showed clumping and to see if there are, 1) grouped categories that show autocorrelation with one another and 2) whether there is evidence that makers have made tradeoffs in some categories against others. Would Tony or Marcelo be so inclined to provide me their scores in excel? This could be a fun treatment of the data and as a scientist, I do like data!

My email is: [Ken has now received all the data from the reviewers. He appreciates all the offers for escort services and dates, but is a happily married man]

A big thanks to all the testers. For a maker, there is nothing as valuable as an impartial and constructive critique. Its been fun following this thread through the winter! To the top makers, great job, its clear you're masters of your craft.

Thanks man, I'll see what shakes out on the numbers and try to get some graphs up this week! Awesome job on compiling all those stats!

This was fun and I hope to be a part of the next one, what ever it is.
Thanks to all the testers for the hard work.

I'm very happy with the results. Congratulations to Bruce Culberson. He's a great guy and obviously makes a great knife. I think his stock just went way up!

Congrats to all knifmakers involved. Thank you to the testers.

Thank you to all of you who buy knives from us and keep us striving to be better knifemakers.

Thanks Ray, Rick, Christof & Brian. Also thanks to Tony, Mike, & Marcelo...the time you guys put in to the photos, testing, & write ups must have been considerable. The result scores would have come out different with 3 different testers I'm sure, I guess I got lucky on this one.....even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile.

Tonym - smooth move on buying the knife before the reviews were posted:p

Thanks for all the work and time put in on this. it seemed to become quite an undertaking... The imput from the testers will be put to good use... CPM 3V is now the standard metal I will be using. Tougher metal will hold the geometry I like...
