"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Update on my stolen truck...
They pulled over the thieves last night, sent them to jail, and impounded my truck. We are now trying to make arrangements to get it back home. I don't know much more than that.
John, I feel so bad for you over this whole episode. :( How far away from the place of business is Reno? Did no one ever notice unexplained mileage when they retrieved their vehicles? Do you know if the shop at least fixed the scratch on your bumper before they loaned it out for services rendered?

Does it bug anybody else when guys post pictures of their pets with their knives... and the blades are open?
It sure bothered my students last semester! They found out I (actually, my wife) has a couple of dogs, and wanted me to bring them in as "therapy dogs" before our first test in the course. Instead, a couple of days before the test, I sent a photo of the dogs to everyone, and it happened to have an open Opinel on the floor near them that they were paying no attention to. But several students asked, some quite indignantly, about the knife.

The truck ended up about 2 hours away from home. As for the rest of your questions, I have no idea. I'm just glad (sorta) that I'm getting my truck back.

I realize that the owners know their animals far better than anybody else, but it still makes me kind of cringe thinking, "What if"...

Jack Black Jack Black

I didn’t see that posting. Maybe he is just pursuing other interests. At least I hope that’s the case. Someone he follows on Twitter can send him a message.

I know that he was active on brittishblades.com. I understand that with its demise a lot of the former members now post on edgematters. You might ask there.
I hope all is well with him. Very knowledgeable and a most genteel poster besides.

Thanks a lot gents

My 13 year old Grandaughter's father my ex son-in-law has never remarried but has always been a large part of her life. Every year he takes her on a great trip somewhere just the two of them and this year he took her on a cruise and she just asked me to post this picture of her in Belize so papaw is posting her picture here.

There's nothing better on this earth than granddaughter's. I'm sure glad to hear she has a loving dad! (and Papaw)! :)

That's wonderful, Randy. Sounds like a fun trip.

Speaking of fluffy whiteness, I wish Winter would get off the ropes and out of the arena.
Yeah, I've noticed you've remarked several times about winter being on the ropes. As I was slogging up an unshoveled sidewalk last Friday, I was struck by the thought that winter might just be using a rope-a-dope strategy similar to the one Ali used so successfully against Foreman in the "Rumble in the Jungle" in 1974. That was not a cheerful thought.

There is a whole lotta awesome in this post!
Sounds like he's a good Dad. And looks like your a really good Papaw, that she wanted you to share with the porch tells me she thinks allot of you. And that makes her a really good granddaughter

Sometime ago, some of our best English members complained that there were not enough (if any?) knives in display at the Sheffield museum.
I hope that what follows will bring them hope that things may change in the future. The Cutlery museum in Thiers has received a 380 items collection from a cutler's heirs.
Hopefully of greater impact over the future, the city of Thiers tries to launch a network involving cutlery capitals allover the world, following Michelin cities' example. If this leads to somewhere (it is still in the limbos) Sheffield could certainly not stay away and display again all the treasures made there. Next step next year in Albacete.

Just for your eyes, the sharpeners/polishers society's banner (est 1883) recently restored :

Well, the wife and I were up at 6:00 AM this morning - not early I know but early for old codgers like us and we were off to the Dental Surgeon up in Klamath Falls, OR. That guy took off a slice of my inside cheek that I swear was the size of a football field and another slice off my lower gum that I swear was the size of an Olympic Swimming Pool. Then he had the gall to poke more holes in my mouth as he stitched everything up.

At least I got to stop at Home Depot and get a new battery powered chain saw before I visited the Doc.

Back home now and time for some pudding.

Oh, the Doc prescribed some Vicodin and I had the prescription filled but don't think I'll take it as it leads to OIC (Opioid Induced Constipation). Not good for an old guy and besides it doesn't hurt all that much. I can put up with it.
