"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Well, I was in the hospital today. But for great news ... :D
My wife´s sister got her baby this night. The little boy is nearly six pounds heavy and about 20 inch length. What a nice little baby... I just wanted to share it :)
(Sorry, for the pic but the light in hospital is no big deal in the evening)

I´m really stunned by such a little baby. Especially that little fingers are really great. :)

CONGRATS!!!! Thank you for telling me about his VIA email, I missed it completely.

Thanks for your replie, Kevin :)

On Friday I gonna see him again, can hardly wait for this... still thinking about some pocket knives when he reached the right age to carry and use them. But I still have time.

Maybe you could whittle him out a nice little trainer knife :)

Just wanted to share something, guys. I'm in about my fifth week of trying to get back into some sort of shape, lose the beer gut and extra chin, gain strength, etc. I've been hitting the gym hard, a minimum of three mornings a week, 2- to 2.5-hour sessions plus 6- to 8-mile walks on my off days. I just turned 44 and I'm REALLY feeling great and losing some weight to boot. Anyone else "in training?"

I religiously practice 12 ounce curls every night. :D

Heh. I'm a big guy, after my accident, I wasn't able to get out and get my carry out meals. Two meat/egg/cheese sandwiches on toast for breakfast, and a huge salad with grilled chicken for lunch was not the best for anyone. I can't eat out like I used to, and have really cut back (allowing for more $ to be spent on sharp stuff). A couple weeks ago, I was thinking about when I had to step it up to the next level. My sister and her boyfriend are now engaged, and they had an "engagement party". Whatever that was, I had too much of a good time, indulging greatly in hard cider and good food. Well, I paid for it, because the party was an afternoon party at a hall, then had dinner at home of leftovers, dinner the next night of leftovers, and have had leftovers from the party for dinner most days this week. When I say I went overboard, I really went all out. I will have to eat like a bird to get my actual stomach, not my belly, to the size it was before the party. I am just worried about getting weight off my broken leg and my back, doing pretty well thank you very much. I also want to be able to get back out on the trails. I have found that I am not so ready to get back on the trail, either mentally or physically. I would like to make it out to a spot on the eastern shore, Turkey Point lighthouse, and a little known trail between Frederick and Hagerstown, a little wonder known as the Appalachian. I might hike about two hundred yards of it, it runs right through one of my favorite spots, the Washington Monument SP.

View from Washington Monument SP, not my pic

aerial view of Turkey Point light house, yep, you can walk to those cliffs

So, I figure I got the rest of the holiday week to get back on track. NO carry out, my body just cannot handle it anymore, go easy on the salty and greasy foods, hard to do at Thanksgiving and Christmas. More walking, can't lift more than 20 lbs, still have bad pains in my chest and back if I try to lift anything.

Mark,

Good for you! Keep with it! I usually stay in shape but I have been going further. Keeping moving and mainly walking more. You could be like my dad and nearly unable to walk, so you may as well take advantage and improve along the way. Just out walking myself and snapped this shot with my phone.

Better to see this than stare at a computer or tv. Nothing is ever good on anymore anyhow.

Don't know how many on here have kids or grandkids, maybe you like to pick up some stuff for your nieces or nephews. I first read this comic back in the 90's, and my little brother and baby sister loved it when they were kids. I didn't know that it was now a Scholastic book, available in school libraries. This series is on par with Lord of the Rings, I'd like to see a cartoon movie come out of this. High drama, great art, humor. If you can find a copy, get it, I still enjoy flipping through my telephone book thick collection, until the pages rip out of the low quality paperback. Looks like the new Scholastic collections are much better quality.

Thanks Elliott. Having problems with a painfully slow internet connection, but I sent a reply a few minutes ago.
