"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Correction. Just checked the forecast again and now it's 9/10 inch and 89F. I'm not exactly certain that I have ever experienced that combination. If I have, it was not in San Diego.

Not sure where else I can ask this, so... Anyone on Eurasian continent happen to have spare copy of "Great Eastern Cutlery, An American Tradition" book by David L. Anthony?

Or maybe anyone anywhere? 😅

Condolences to our Brit members. ☹️
I just learned that Queen Elizabeth passed this afternoon. ☹️

God Save The King!!
French people had some respect and kindness toward her. She was a real friend and visited France quite often, she spoke French fluently with just a hint of an accent (Charles has some).
Big Charles (our own!) once said thet French people are die hard republicans but tend to love Kings and Queens as long as they're abroad! 😊

Btw Meako, have you any idea if KChIII will continue the tradition of wearing those lovely amazing hats (called bibis here)? 🤔
After coal, steel, automotive demises shall we attend the hat industry's?
Cap-wringing (along with forelock-tugging) seems to be thriving at the moment! 😂 ;)

It kind of has to, though.
Seems somewhat incongruous having an adulterer as head of the Church of England, but then it has had somewhat elastic values since it's foundation, and certainly been happy to ignore far greater sins

As an aside, I once knew a C of E vicar who decided he was a Republican, and was no longer comfortable with the oath he had taken to the Queen. He consulted his bishop, who told him he was not alone, (some atheists too apparently), but he only had to renew the oath if he moved post. So, as long as he remained in the same post, he's be OK. I wonder if all the clerics will now be required to renew their oaths to the new King? There might be a certain amount of finger-crossing going on

That doesn't bother me a bit, personally. I suspect they've always been alleycats, but used to have more sympathy from and more influence over the press.
He's ok with me, and I think he'll do fine.
He'll be glad to hear this, of course, since it's so much my business.

Years ago I read that he wanted to be defender of faith instead of defender of THE faith. Maybe the C of E will have a little circumspection.

Yes indeed, they have an absolutely appalling history, tom-catting is the least of it

LOL! :D  If I ever get the chance Jer, I'll send him you over! :D ;)
I liked Charles I -- to some extent -- as portrayed by Alec Guinness in Oliver. Didn't care much for Oliver (Cromwell).
Not many folks did, I don't think, he turned out to be an absolute rotter!

And he had a rotten haircut! :D ;)
