"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Every time I put this knife down, I lose it.

This should help, until I make new handles in shocking colors.

Great letter opener... 'cept for the wires.
Maybe I need to buy a multi-tool and stage it nearby, to cut the wire…

I still have a few rolls of that orange flagging in my trunk. You’re giving me ideas now.

Opening packages with tape certainly fouls & clogs up knives but a spot of WD-40 removes residues very well.
Packages are usually wrapped with sticky tape which leaves nasty and hard to clean with anything residue on blade, especially cheap tape. I absolutely hate that, and I hate to have my tools dirty, that's why I open boxes and stuff only with a beater zero-value knife that I keep on my desk. Or scissors, yes. I might change it to something more fancy one day though. ;)
Will beat me to it: WD40 is very good at removing glue residue :thumbsup:

I have a shameful confession to make - hopefully this won’t get me voted off the porch

My wife was struggling to open something this morning - the type of situation we all live for - an opportunity to demonstrate the usefulness of these bladed implements we keep accumulating, and to provide at least SOME justification for for the money we spend on them. I was still in my PJs, with nothing in my pockets, and suddenly faced with a decision to make - do I go to my desk and grab one of the knives I have there, or go to the drawers where I keep the rest of my stash - and which one to pick? Frozen for a second in front of the bewildering and overwhelming array of choices, I went to the kitchen instead and grabbed a pair of kitchen shears from the knife block there…

I think the solution for similar situations in the future will be to purchase some MORE knives, to pre-position about the house. That sounds reasonable, right?
I've been following with interest Tom's confession and the suggestions folks have made in response to it.;)

But what I found MOST intriguing about Tom's post was the notion that we can vote people off The Porch. Is this really a thing? It seems so democratic! Some areas near me had officials up for recall on Election Day Tuesday - that's like voting someone off The Porch, right? (My ballot Tuesday had only one item on it - renewal, with no increase, of a long-standing small millage for some aspect of running the local public school district. I voted at 9:30am and was only the 15th in-person voter in my precinct that day, so turnout was not exemplary.) Can we also vote people onto The Porch, or maybe vote to reinstate folks who have been kicked off and "paid their debt to society"? What are the procedures for this sort of thing? Do we need to circulate petitions and get a specified number of signatures to get someone on a ballot? Or can we just start a "poll thread" to vote someone off (or onto) The Porch, and "majority rules" (among those who participate in the poll)? Are there procedures in place for certifying the results of such votes? Can "benevolent dictators" of Blade Forums overrule at will the results of such elections? Food for thought!🤓

Haha. I never watched the TV show “Survivor”, but the concept of getting “voted off the island” worked its way into the mainstream culture of the time, and the expression into the vernacular. I just changed “island” to “porch”.

I think its something like getting blackballed, but after you are already part of the group.

I need a confused emoji.🥸🤔😲 Has there been any consideration given to issuing ID cards for proof of membership?

Let's change the subject. Cargo pants. I really don't like cargo pants. Every stupid pocket has a stupid flap with at least velcro and at worst buttons. Those stupid side pockets on the outside of your thigh are only good for knocking stuff over in a high price antique store, should you be dumb enough to actually put cargo in such a stupid place. Plus they fit like culottes. And seldom have a watch pocket which really is a good feature on a proper pair of pants. Not some stupid pair of stupid cargo pants.

I trust everyone here is with me on this.

Should I do a poll?

PS: I went to the store today in cargo pants. That makes me stupid.

My Duluth Trading cargo pants have a watch pocket.
