"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

VCM3 VCM3 Difficult decision Vince but I believe you made the right choice. Douk-Douks, like many French knives are relatively easy to open but strongly sprung and hard to shut. Also they're slim-which I like but it may not afford good grip for an eldery or inexperienced handler...potential for injury. Then some busybody type at the home could get triggered by all this and a crisis unfolds. Nobody needs that. No need to feel terrible, your intentions & motives are all good. I send you power and respect.

Thanks, Will

My older sister is here for a long week visiting due to the recent passing of my Ryan . I was showing her his small collection of pocket knives. One of which I recently gave him was a Douk Douk unicorn. A day later she asked me if she could have it
Back in NY she lives in an assisted living facility
On the one hand I’d love for her to have it , but on the other hand I see all the problems that could come from such an item ( a razor sharp folding knife ) , the policies of the facility etc
I told her I didn’t think it was a good idea and I feel terrible about that
I don't know you or her, so I shouldn't chip in, so here goes:
As long as you told her your reasons, I don't think you should feel terrible.

I would have thought she might know her own situation, and given it to her. Maybe it would be a memento of you as well as Ryan.
But you know your situation.

Sorry to butt in.

Thanks Will , screened porch you’re not butting in at all. It’s not so much her , but it would be an item that could wind up in the wrong situation

We had discussion she acknowledged my reasoning , kind of agreed but I still feel bad about it

She has become somewhat comfortable there and doesn’t see the multiple scenarios someone looking in from the outside could imagine
