"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

VCM3 VCM3 Difficult decision Vince but I believe you made the right choice. Douk-Douks, like many French knives are relatively easy to open but strongly sprung and hard to shut. Also they're slim-which I like but it may not afford good grip for an eldery or inexperienced handler...potential for injury. Then some busybody type at the facility could get triggered by all this and a crisis unfolds. Nobody needs that. No need to feel terrible, your intentions & motives are all good. I send you power and respect.

Thanks, Will

My older sister is here for a long week visiting due to the recent passing of my Ryan . I was showing her his small collection of pocket knives. One of which I recently gave him was a Douk Douk unicorn. A day later she asked me if she could have it
Back in NY she lives in an assisted living facility
On the one hand I’d love for her to have it , but on the other hand I see all the problems that could come from such an item ( a razor sharp folding knife ) , the policies of the facility etc
I told her I didn’t think it was a good idea and I feel terrible about that
I don't know you or her, so I shouldn't chip in, so here goes:
As long as you told her your reasons, I don't think you should feel terrible.

I would have thought she might know her own situation, and given it to her. Maybe it would be a memento of you as well as Ryan.
But you know your situation.

Sorry to butt in.

Thanks Will , screened porch you’re not butting in at all. It’s not so much her , but it would be an item that could wind up in the wrong situation

We had discussion she acknowledged my reasoning , kind of agreed but I still feel bad about it

She has become somewhat comfortable there and doesn’t see the multiple scenarios someone looking in from the outside could imagine

Am I the only one who finds the Olympics drones irritating? They are appearing in every venue, indoor and outdoor. I’m watching the men’s downhill right now. One of the things I always liked was the sound of the skis on the snow when they are going so fast, but now I can hardly hear that because the incessant whine of the drones is drowning everything out.

My problem with the drones is that the moving point-of-view gives me motion sickness.

I agree, NBC needs to hit the "mute" button on their drone cameras.

Keep an eye out for Valentino Guseli...Aussie snowboard halfpipe champ..he 's from Dalmeny where I live...His achievement on the snowboard is amazing considering it hasnt snowed here anytime ever.
And what’s your excuse for not representing 😉😆

Honestly that’s cool.

Heard a great public service commercial on the radio the other night. It was a straightforward message promoting prostate cancer awareness and the importance of PSA screenings - sponsored by Depends. Somebody should have gotten a raise for thinking of that one.;)

(I'm a true believer in the PSA test, by the way. Caught a pretty aggressive cancer in my prostate five years ago and had it removed immediately. PSA is still just 0.11. So far, so good.)

100% agree... It would make more sense to have no mic on the drone and just have strategically placed microphones near jumps and turns to "hear the action". I've been curling for almost 20 years and one mistake they have made lately is to put microphones on the curlers. The yelling is the least flattering part about watching curling and people don't need to hear it. It's more important for people watching to be able to listen to the commentators talk about the strategy, the rules and execution. Just my couple pennies worth 😉

Interesting that you mention curling. Today I watched this...interesting physics involved, not fully understood.

I curled in a tournament this past weekend on the same team with one of the people in that video 😉

The guy in the red hat is Dave Samsa and the gal on the right is Penny Greeley. They both curl out of the Green Bay curling club where I play. Both of them have played on the USA Curling Team in the Paralympics and Dave actually won a silver medal in the mixed doubles wheelchair world championships last year. I have curled against Dave in my league for many years and he asked if I could fill in for one of his guys that couldn't play over the weekend, so I did. Interesting thing... I am not a wheelchair curler but the other 3 guys were. Wheelchair teams do not sweep their stones so it was pretty challenging for me to throw my stones without the aid of sweepers LoL. It was humbling and afterwards, I realized how much my sweepers help make me a good curler. 😁

As for Curling ...in true Aussie style we invented hot summer weather curling...
Take an ice cream tub...fill with water ...freeze...wait.. then Let curling across the carpet begin.....mime the sweeping action.
Keep a mop handy ..great fun.

Anyone else having problems with Imgur this morning (Friday)?
I'm getting a warning about the site not being secure, and when I ignore that and go to the site anyway, I can't upload images from my laptop to Imgur. When the upload fails, I'm advised to try again later.
