"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

But how do you find the picture if you want to post it again later? Or do you upload it every time?
Yes, I just upload a photo to Imgur from my compulsively organized 🤓 photo files whenever I want to post it.

For example, today I wanted to post my Lambsfoot of the Week in the "Totin' Today" thread. The lambsfoot in question was my 2019 Guardians Lambsfoot that I call Valley Jack (or VJ in the privacy of my own laptop). The "path" I follow on my MacBook to find an appropriate photo is
Pictures > knives > British > a.wright&son > 2019 guardians ironwood lambsfoot > VJ.4.20 because I decided to use photos of VJ taken in April of 2020 (having COVID flashbacks  ). There happened to be 3 photos in that "lowest level" subfolder (and I'll bet it usually takes me about 5 seconds on average to get to the subfolder I want), and I chose a mark side and a pile side photo to upload simultaneously to Imgur. I then had to copy the BBCode of each photo individually to paste into my BF post.

I find it much easier to keep my photos organized on my laptop than trying to keep things "tidy" on Imgur. Hierarchical file structure is the air that I breathe! 😁

You sure are more organized than I am! Want to come over and straighten up my file system? 🤣

Maybe I should take you up on that; do you live near an Austin Moonlight Tower? 🤓
I recently read a book about the Midnight Assassin serial killer in Austin in 1885 (?) and learned about Austin installing these insanely tall light towers for street lighting. The book couldn't really say much about the "assassin" because virtually no clues were ever found, but the book was quite fascinating in its description of Austin and its society at that time.

Way back when, I had an Imgur account, and had a semi-organized repository of my knife photos there. At some point, Imgur changed their "structure" and I couldn't find my photos back. I think I started posting directly to BF after that happened, until the day when we all turned out to be far beyond our limits. I think @Just Tom. taught me how to use Imgur as an "anonymous transfer port" after I became disillusioned with the frequent glitches I encountered when trying to use Postimages in that way.

To get to your "images" under the new Imgur structure is a multistep process. As I mentioned, Imgur's currently styling itself as a "social media" site, rather than just an image hosting site, per se. But here are the steps I use:
> Log in. (don't forget that just hitting enter does not work, you need to click the sign in button after entering your user name and passord.)
> at the top right corner of the screen, click your user name. That produces a popup.
>On the popup, click "settings". That takes you to a new screen.
>At the top right of that settings screen, mouse over your user name. That produces a popup.
>Click "images".

Notice that I differentiated between "clicking" and "mousing over" in the instructions above. I use a PC when using either BF or Imgur.

That takes you to the old user screen where you can look at all your images and if you have put them into "albums", you can look at just the photos in an individual album.

There's a moontower not too far from me. There are still 14 of them out of the original 31. They were erected ten years after the "Servant Girl Annihilator" murders, so it may not have prompted the installation, but with local government bureaucracy, who knows?

Thank you! To get to my image albums, I've been logging in to Imgur, and then opening the old site page that I'd bookmarked. (You can't start out on that page first) Now I know another way to get there if I'm using a different browser or something.

Thanks for the detailed instructions on how to find my "images" at Imgur, Frank.:cool:
Unfortunately, I couldn't even get through the Login in the first step. I found my old username and password from when I first signed in to Imgur years ago, but they didn't seem to work at the Login page. I then tried creating a new Imgur account, but kept violating rules for acceptable usernames and passwords. In the process, I found out that my old username had apparently been truncated at the first unacceptable character under the new naming rules. So I tried that modified username with the old password: no dice. I tried the new username and told Imgur I'd forgotten my password; that gave me a chance to create a new password, but maybe I inadvertently violated rules while doing so.
Anyway, the photos I had on Imgur in the old days were only a small percentage of the knife photos I currently have on my laptop, so I'm not really motivated to figure out how to find them on Imgur.

Thanks for the cool info and link for the towers!:thumbsup:
I thought it was very interesting when the book I read mentioned that the towers had been obtained second-hand from Detroit, MI.
FWIW, here's a photo of the book I read (thanks, DaveHS DaveHS ):

Imgur is being annoying for me, too. I found a setting for "use old style" or something to that effect, which made it easier for me to find my existing photos. I lost a lot of my uploaded content in the Great Photobucket Disaster, so I have only uploaded a subset of my knife pics to Imgur, and I just keep re-posting those when the need for a knife pic arises. I have not tried to upload a new pic to them in years.

My interest in pocket knives has always been more about buying. owning, maintaining, and using them. I am not so much into photography or image uploading. Makes it hard for me to contribute to many of the threads because so many of them are "show photos of xxx with zzz" and I just don't like dealing with finding suitable backdrops and posing my knives. I did that a long time ago so I am coasting off those old photos. :)

Since the British government declared war on image hosting sites, I just take pictures on my Fujifilm camera and delete them as I use them. I still have old pics on imgur, but since they aren't even named, never mind filed, ...
Anyway, how often do I need to find a picture of a knife I think I used to have?

I feed my trolls only the choicest cuts of calorie laden goodness.😈
Impressive sized meal! How long is Boris?

The other day, I was on my morning run and as I passed under a tree, I heard a squirrel make a startled sound, and looked up in time to see a hawk fly off with it. Nature is cruel, but that was quick.
