Anyone else having problems with Imgur this morning (Friday)?
I'm getting a warning about the site not being secure, and when I ignore that and go to the site anyway, I can't upload images from my laptop to Imgur. When the upload fails, I'm advised to try again later.

It seems to be working on my Windows PC, but the Android app on my smartphone is not working. I did a Google search on Imgur problems, and sites like Downdetector are reporting problems since around 9:00 pm yesterday. That's when I first noticed it was not working for me.
I'm not getting any security warnings.

I just tried it and it worked as normal for me.

Thanks for the info, Gary and Mike.:thumbsup: Mike, you're a lucky dog, and Gary, I hope your smartphone problems with Imgur clear up ASAP. 🤓

I can now get to the Imgur site without security warnings. But I'm still unable to upload photos from my laptop to Imgur as the first step in posting an image to BF.

Is there a benefit to using imgur over the normal BF image upload system?

In theory, there is a data limit to how many images we can upload. Unfortunately, since the last site update, there's no way (as far as I know) to look and see what that limit is, or how close to it I am. There isn't an easy way to delete photos either, besides searching your own posts and going and deleting them individually. Doing that can ruin older archived threads if lots of pictures are missing.

Just used imgbox for this.

I thought that when the last major upload for BF was done that there was no longer a limit for uploading pictures using the BF image upload system.

No kidding! So, the plan is to just always use Imgur or imgbox, then.

I hadn't tried to upload on my PC. I just checked, and it is allowing me to upload images. My Android phone and tablet are still not working.

It's a tough call, really. It's best, unless & until those photo hosting sites go out of business.
Remember the Great Photobucket Disaster of 2018...
Good point. Perhaps the best course of action is to use the built-in one until it stops working for me. That day will be a bummer though.

I guess I stopped using imgur when our British members were having it blocked. I seem not to have hit the limit yet.

Eight years since the photobucket disaster!

Imgur got bought out a few months ago and has been hiccupping a bit since then. It's also a hot social media site. It sometimes overloads after events that everyone apparently feels a need to comment about. If I didn't have about 400 pictures neatly organized into categories there that I reuse as needed, I'd move on to another site.

But I just logged on and had no issues.

Yeah, there was some sort of incorrect setting on attachment limits a couple of years ago, and when the setting was corrected, almost EVERYBODY was over the limit at the same time. There was much wailing and gnashing of teeth, and a lot of impulsive unwise actions taken by some of us.

Thanks for the additional Imgur info, Frank.:thumbsup:
I really don't understand how Imgur can even work the way I use it to post images to BF. I go to the Imgur website, NEVER login, and just anonymously (as far as I can tell) upload photos to Imgur (where do they get stored??) and then get the appropriate BBcode from Imgur and paste it into the BF post I'm creating. Maybe Imgur assigns the images I upload to my IP address or something?

Thanks for the update, Gary. FWIW, when I tried uploading a couple of images to Imgur at about 4:25EST, I had my first success of the day.

I always log in. It never occurred to me to try and use Imgur without logging in. Huh 🤔

Way back when, I had an Imgur account, and had a semi-organized repository of my knife photos there. At some point, Imgur changed their "structure" and I couldn't find my photos back. I think I started posting directly to BF after that happened, until the day when we all turned out to be far beyond our limits. I think J Just Tom. taught me how to use Imgur as an "anonymous transfer port" after I became disillusioned with the frequent glitches I encountered when trying to use Postimages in that way.

But how do you find the picture if you want to post it again later? Or do you upload it every time?
