"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Happy Easter folks :)
Is there any traditional Easter meal or dish where you live?
Around here, it would be either the roasted "baby pig", or lamb (roasted, with olives, artichokes, or other flavors).
That's what we have on our table to test if our knives are sharp enough :p

In Switzerland it is customary to eat fish on good friday. Another thing is the easter cake, some sort of tart with a sweet custard rice filling, yummy :).
But the staple food is definitely chocolate :D (and colored eggs).

My family always roasted lamb, its REAL hard to get here in the midwest though so I had to order some in...lamb tastes amazing! got some roast potatoes all spiced and herbed up and an apple pie for desert (was going to do strudel but didnt have the ingredients on hand). Got chocolates and such as well but I have a cracked wisdom tooth and sweets don't seem to agree with it atm :p

Have a great day guys!!!

Happy Birthday - Mr. Jack Black, Sir!

I almost said what I think via VM - but just - celebrate Your day, my friend! :)

"Prost" (as we say in Bavaria) aka "Cheers"

Happy birthday Mr Black.

Have a great day sir.

What? It's Jack's birthday?

Happy birthday, Jack. Have an extra pint of courage on me!:thumbup:

Thank you very much fellers, really appreciate it. Sorry I missed the kind words until now :)

I think it's probably time for his slippers and mug of Horlick's now Carl.

He can't drink like when he was young ;)

Let´s don´t call him Gramps ;) :foot:

LOL!!! I actually googled was Horlick´s is... thanks for this... :D

Yeah, a hot malted drink favored by fuddy-duddies & OAPs before bed :D

And less of your cheek you young scamp! :D

Happy belated birthday Jack, and a late Happy Easter to all! Happy belated Passover also. Thank you for the continued support for my baby sister, it is much appreciated.

A holiday staple is always kielbasa, always Ostrowski's (Baltimoreans will know the old family). Always eaten mixed with sauerkraut.

I stopped by a local farmers market, a huge place, on Saturday, and picked up a knife. It is a scout/camp knife, with faded bone scales, the only marking is on the main blade. Just

Made in
USA.

It is in great condition, with a nice patina. Ten bucks might've been too much, but I'm not complaining. The can opener was broken off, but otherwise it's in great condition. Needs a good sharpening, as the edge is already plenty sharp, it has some bad dings on it. Looks like either Camillus or Imperial, but who knows. I'll post pics in a thread.

i also saw a Krusius eureka jack, in pretty good condition. Thick thick patina, not rust, but a patina. Both blades opened with ease, still had good snap. I didn't have the $ to pay the asking fee because I am paying on a custom order, but I liked it. They didn't want anyone taking photos. Does anyone have any experience with the Krusius brand? I could barely make out the tang stamp.

Well guys, today it´s me who needs some prayers and smokes from your part of the world...

My wife´s grandpa fell yesterday and got a hipfracture. They took him to hospital and during surgery on his hip he got a Pulmonary embolism. We just got a call that the docs don´t know if he could make it at all. I hope and pray everything will be fine ...

He´s 80 years old and was a farmer his whole life long. I hope he will make this all and will be back up on some time.

:(

That's bad news Andi, my thoughts are with you and your family my friend, hope all will be well.

Jack

Andi,
best wishes and prayers for your grandpa. 80 years is not that much for an active man: just trust him. He can get out of it. And lots of knives (and the hands that hold them) are by his side :)

Prayers and good thoughts sent for Grandpa and your family, Andi.
