"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Prayers up for Smoky. It's such a hard hit when our four-legged family members pass. It's good that you could be with him when he slipped away.

Prayers for your pup, and for you and your wife.

It is tough, but if you don't have any other dogs in the household, the best thing to do is give your love and attention to a new pup. It is tough and you need to give yourself some time to grieve, but having a dog back in your life does wonders for the grieving process.

Whew, made it back from Oregon, with no thanks to United Airlines. The trip was great, except for the coming and going. Oregon was so beautiful, I'd consider moving and spending what's left of my red dwarf period there. In spite of it being hot when we first got there, 97 degrees, it had none of the humidity of Maryland. It was like 80 degrees here. We hit the river, doing a raft rip on the Rogue, and that was fun. But the real beauty was the redwoods and Crater Lake. Being amounf 2000 year old giant trees was like a other world experience. Humbling.

Here, Karen, granddaughter Briana and myslef are in a redwood.

Driving a full size Ford explorer thru a tree was cool.

Setting off down the Rogue. They put me on the helm position thinking I may know what I'm doing. Oh the fools!

The northern California coast. I like it, and think I could live there if it were in another state.:D

Another view of Crater Lake. As long as I stood there, I couldn't believe the intense blue color of the water. Apparently the lake is so deep, 1900 feet, that the other colors of the spectrum don't penetrate, and only the blue and violet shades go deep.

Looks like a wonderful trip Carl.

The beautiful hues of the lake look really hypnotic....especially in the last pic! ;)

Good to hear you're all back safely, Carl. Wow, those pictures of Crater lake are gorgeous! It's definitely on my must-see list.

I spied the ever-important Carl-approved bandana in your rafting picture, too! :D

Glad you had a good trip.

Wonderful scenery, Carl. It must have great walking in these areas. I´d like to that, too. Who knows, maybe sometime ... ;)

Great to see you and your family had such a great time on your vacation. Thanks for sharing this great time with The Crowd.

Dan, the banana became needed as my old khaki bucket hat became a casualty of the jet boat ride up Hellgate canyon the day before. So I needed to improvise a sun shade to cover the area betwen the sunglasses and my forehead so I could see the rocks in the rapids. I kept out a fld of the rolled up bandana to stick out and shade my eyes from the sun glare on the water. Improvise, adapt, and overcome!:D

It was hypnotic. I stood there and kept staring and thinking how unreal it looked. I've been all over, and I've never seen that deep sapphire blue like that on any water anywhere.

Great post Carl, thanks for letting us see the Clan on vaction! :) The pics are fantastic, amazing trees and scenery, looks like a wonderful place to visit. I bet you'd swap it for a day-trip to Otley in a trice though eh?! :D

Glad you all had a great time and that your travels were safe and sound :)

I'd love to go to Otley!!!

Maybe we'll fit it in someday. Karen and I are planing on doing traveling in our retirement.

The family wondered off while I was staring up at the redwoods, leaving me without adult supervision. I occupied myself with knife stuff, and look what happened! Who says SAK saw's don't cut?
:D

Nice trip Carl, and nice pictures.
The Crater Lake caught my eye the very first time I saw a picture of it.
It's always nice to see how many beautiful places there are around the world...although I won't be able to visit them all :D
So how many knives were hidden in the family picture? :p
Meanwhile, cheers from southern FL (got here yesterday): hot and humid and cyclone alert and so on (and I'm just out of the Everglades), but then again, who cares? I'm on holiday ;)

Don't worry Thom, I have a Peanut in my pocket, and a SAK with me, so nothing can hurt me. You've seen what Carl did with his SAK, didn't you? :D

Also, my Spartan has no saw, but a corkscrew and caplifter, so no cyclone is going to argue with me while I'm opening bottles :p

Whoa Fausto, you're in south Florida?? Do you have time to hit Key West? Bahia Honda Key? If you make it to Key West, the tour of Hemingway's house is a must, as is the old Light house, and the Duval street pub crawl tour. And there's some clothing optional bars to hit. And Miami's South beach is a great place on a Saturday night. Have fun!:thumbup:
