Paul,
such things go way beyond understanding, but surely not beyond prayers. The first one comes from Sardinia.

Elliott,
sorry things didn't work out for the dog, but after all, I'm convinced that the right one is out there looking for you...and it will be just a matter of time till you meet :)

Finally getting some rain here in St. Lou after almost 3 weeks with nary a drop.

Of course I had to get up early and turn the sprinkler on before it did anything! :D

Paul, Smoke and prayers from NC... Such things can be so very devastating for all who knew them.

Paul, I had a colleague go through the same thing, and they need all the help we can give. Prayers from St. Louis.

Paul, My thoughts and prayers for your family. Sorry to hear this.

Paul, very sorry for your troubles, my thoughts are with you and your family. Twenty five years ago, my best pal ended his life in similiar circumstances, and I know it's tough for those left behind.

Paul, your fiancee and her family are in our thoughts and allow me to offer my condolences on the terrible loss. Here's to better days ahead.

(And thanks to you and all who have expressed their support here for our (by any reasonable comparison) relatively small recent trial.)

My condolences, Paul. It's a sad situation that no one should have to deal with. You and yours will be in my thoughts and prayers during these trying times.

Sorry to hear about this, Paul! My condolences, prayers and smoke sent to you and your family.

I'm sorry to hear of this, Paul. Prayers sent.

Thank you all for your kind words, I will pass them onto Claire and her family.

Paul

Paul, that's a tough one. Glad that your fiance has you to lend her support during such a difficult time.
Elliott, sorry to hear about your roller-coaster ride, but glad that you made the right choice. It's hard, but consolation comes from doing the right thing.

Thank you, my friend.

When the end of the line comes, we'll all have a few special days we remember. For me, one of those days will be Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013.

I took my boy (8) fishing for the first time. His day started at 5:15 a.m. when I woke him up. He quickly got dressed and grabbed the backpack we'd loaded up the night before. We drove to the lake as the sun was beginning to rise. We found our spot together and had lines in by about 6:30. We baited hooks together, we shivered together (and later, the sun warmed us up together), we whittled together with our Swiss Army knives, we devoured our sandwiches together, we threw rocks together, we discussed the finer points of casting together, we talked about life together. And around 11:30 when we had to load up and go home, he said, "Dad, you know what would be cool? If we could fish all day and then sleep in a tent, and then fish again the next day." :) I had to agree. That would be cool.

Here's my best buddy for life ...

Oh, we didn't catch anything. In retrospect, that hardly seems important.

Mark, that sounds positively idyllic. Congratulations on giving your son an experience he will cherish for life.

Paul and Elliott, prayers for both of you. Elliott, I am sorry that things didn't work out for you/your wife and Smoke, but don't give up on a pup. Paul, I am sorry to hear of this. Hopefully they are at rest now. Times can never be hard enough to take your life and leave behind loved ones. People may be too consumed in their own troubles to stop and tell your loved ones that you love them, and show it. Laying in a hospital bed last year, for some reason I really realized how good it is to not only be loved, but to show love. Lots of people in ICU that never received visitors. No shoulda woulda coulda, but just show your loved ones you are there for them.

Good words, Dan. Well said. (And thanks, again. I appreciate your thoughtfulness.)
