"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Well, it's still hot as blazes here, but after this weekend's little shade project, I'm looking forward to sitting out back with a beer and a cigar and not completely melting in the sun. :D

That end of our little covered patio area faces west and gets full sunlight in the afternoon during the summer. The shades make a huge difference.

I had a nice visit with Stan Shaw yesterday, and also bumped into Geoff Tweedale.

Had lunch in the Fat Cat pub :)

Sounds like a good day. How's the old boy doin?

As it happens; I have been reading Dr Tweedle's book on Mester Shaw whilst I'm away in Hawes.

Thanks ago an for that my friend

Funny and disturbing at the same time JP!

But how true! I'm like btb01, I have an old mac, not perfect, but no severe issue, enough for my needs. Since I retired I have not seen W9 and 10 and would probably stare in front of the screen like a hedgehog in front of a shoe brush...

Good question Charlie.
Looks like a square pie but that can't be right.Pies are round.
My guess is roast pork with crackling, yumptious fat marrow peas, roast spuds n gravy.
I tell you what though ,with the weather we have at the moment it would be a welcome repast.Specially with a pint of rum for afters.:)

I started working at a new job at a high end furniture shop yesterday and, despite being dead tired from 6am-4pm shifts, I'm happy as can be. This job has a lot of room for me to grow and is really the first big break I've gotten in several years.

Of interest will be what knife I end up buying for it, as my boots, underwear, socks, shirts, pants, watch, hair, eyes, ears, and nose get full of sawdust everyday.

First I'm buying an occidental leather tape measure holster, maybe one with pencil pockets too.
I might buy some new boots in a few months too, pull over Pecos from Red Wing so i can clean out chips and dust easily throughout the day.

Here's a pic of the shop from the break room upstairs.

Congrats Connor , Great opportunity for a young man. If I could offer one little tidbit of advice it would be stick a little bit back each week no matter how small because any of us old guy's will tell you life sneaks up on you pretty darn quick and some day you will be very glad that you did.

Im putting more than half away. I don't need money to have fun, I've found that using your head and doing some searching, jerry rigging, and outside of the box thinking lets you have anything you want

An antique store owner told me hlw he rehandled a sledge using a bow saw, pocket knife, and the broken handle.
He used the saw as a rasp for the rough shaping, knofe to finish, and the weight of the head to pound it in place.
All to the amazement of his 8 year old granddaughter.
A lot out of nothing but a broken sledge and the "wrong" tools.

Thanks for your kind words Randy and Gary and Whittlin away (its late and I can't remember your name sorry)!
