Thousands of Earthquakes.
I was just sittin in my Hotel room and I was rocking away quite gently in my chair- I wasn't rocking- my room was nice and gentle.

Je suis californien. Je comprend.

AKA,
Been there. Done that.

Those many repeated aftershocks after a whopper get unnerving after a while. You get sensitized and a tad jumpy.

All this AND Australians lol. Give me Earthquakes anytime.:D

Thank you guys for the kind words. I am lucky. I live way up North and not effected by all this, the Cantebury people on the other hand have had to endure- now get this as this is NOT an exaggeration - Thousands of Earthquakes.

Duncan my friend be safe. That was a 7.8 magnitude quake and they are fearing it could trigger a tsunami. Argentina had a 6.2 magnitude quake that fortunately was away from a high populous area so no casualties.

Bless you

Good to hear you and your family is all right so far. The pictures we´ve seen here on TV are badlooking.

Prayers for the people there in NZ.

Happy to hear you and your family are OK, Duncan. We don't get many quakes here in Central New York State. I'll gladly take our winters and generally crappy weather any day.

The only earthquake I've felt was October 8, 1983 near Blue Mountain Lake in the central Adirondack Mountains. It registered a preliminary Richter magnitude of 5.2. I live about 136 miles away and can remember glasses rattling in the cabinets. That's enough quaking for me thanks.

Cut to the bone.

A few weeks ago I picked up a vintage Plumb Scout Hatchet without sheath. Saturday I took it to a man at a particular gunshow to get a proper edge on it. I forgot to take a small section of split garden hose to cover the blade. After he sharpened it, I used one of his shop towels to wrap the edge and finished perusing the show. When I got home, I was collecting my cell, phone, coffee cup, some ammo I purchased, and the hatchet. Immediately sliced the outside of my right thumb to the bone. Once I got the bleeding stopped, my wife, an RN, suggested I get it stitched at the emergency room or a doc-in-the-box. I refused and asked her to take care of it. She cleaned it, stripped it, and dressed it. Said if that didn't work she'd glue it. Last night when she switched out the dressing she was very pleased. This evening, she'll probably just wrap it in two large bandaids.

Very clean slice. But hurt like hell yesterday.

It's been since the mid-'90s Ive pulled a boneheaded stunt like that with a sharp edge.

Another scar with an interesting tale behind it Leghog ;) Glad you're OK

Leghog I'm sorry you cut yourself but it reminded me of something my son-in-law did a few years back.

I'll start by saying that when it comes to the outdoors Chris (my son-in-law) is as dumb as a rock. The only outdoor activities his family ever participated in was the occasional picnic at a public park. He was never taught nor taken fishing, hunting, camping or any other outdoor adventure. I took him on his first fishing trip and hunting trip and his wife my daughter taught him how to shoot and handle a firearm. I said all of this to explain just how inexperienced he was.

The first time I took him camping I brought all the gear including my hatchet that I had just sharpened. Wanting to help he grabbed it up and started splitting some kindling and when he was finished he promptly stuck the blade of my hatchet in the ground. I went a little crazy and explained how that was not a good thing to do in a way he knew I was serious. He retrieved the hatchet and said don't worry I'll clean it then ran his thumb across the business end of the hatchet resulting in a trip to the closest ER for stiches because his bone was also exposed.

Best wishes and much smoke going up for those affected by the earthquakes. When thinking about natural disasters, earthquakes and tornadoes are right up there at the top of my "Code Brown" list. The immediacy and inability to react in a lot of instances is absolutely terrifying. I'll take a hurricane any day. Let us know how things are going, Duncan!

Hope you heal up well, leghog. Sounds like you're in a primo position with your wife being a NR, though. Got a picture of that hatchet? :D

Randy, I hope you didn't go too hard on your son-in-law. Even though I grew up in a town full of fisherman and hunters, it was never really my bag (I just wanted to go fast). If you threw me out into the woods with minimalist survival gear, I doubt I'd last a week. But at least I know not to run my finger down the edge!

We've had three straight days of heavy overcast skies, so I was really bummed about missing the Super Moon, but I just went to take the dog out, and lo and behold, the skies had cleared. If you good folks would indulge an amateur, I'd like to share a photo I captured of this so called Super Moon. Anyone else get a shot of it?

I'm meeting my mate Wolfie later! Better take some silver with me (particularly as it's my turn to pay for dinner)! :D

Anyone going to the NYCKS (NY Custom Knife Show) this coming weekend? We'll be in Manhattan for a few days and might try to make it there, if we can fit it in with our other plans.

I'd love to go, but I'm afraid that will never be in the cards for me. From where I am, it would be a very expensive knife show to attend. :(

I was wondering if there is a dedicated thread for traditional knife videos. I found this one today and thought some of you might not have seen it already.

and one for you, Jack.

There might be but I'm not aware of one.

Thanks for the links and I think having one thread where we can put traditional knife videos of all kinds is an excellent idea.

I'm sure many of us have footage that others here would find interesting, that's not on the 'net. I know I have a bit.

And there'd be some very worthwhile stuff in the bookmarks of people on here.
