"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Welcome back, everybody.

Max must be looking at colleges by now. Good to hear from you, Andi.

My thanks also to Spark for his legerdement.

Jack Black picked the right time to disconnect.

Maybe I should spring for an avatar.

Good one! :D

So, we can post pics directly now, without Photobucket?

OK, that worked, but I have to resize my pictures first.

You can multi-quote by hitting "Reply" on one post, then hitting "Reply" on the next. Each time it will take you to your reply draft at the bottom of the page (which is annoying, because if you hit "Reply" on a post at the top of the page you'll have to scroll back up to find where you left off), but it will add a quote to your draft for every post you hit "Reply" on.

You can also highlight text within a given post, hit reply (either a pop-up gray bubble or the standard link), and the software will properly format a response including just the highlighted text.

This also works when multi-quoting as described above.

A hoped-for feature is also included in this software: you can receive an alert every time someone quotes one of your posts, and further alert non-quoted members you wish to include in an ongoing conversation by placing the @ symbol in front of the desired username(s). 'Tagging" usernames like this also presents a direct link to their profile and other options, as you are about to see:

knarfeng knarfeng
@sitflyer
r8shell r8shell

(I believe just most/all Alert features are turned on by default, but can be toggled in one's account settings.)

Oh, Noes! I have been tagged!
How do I get rid of the "r8shell was last seen...." part of my profile?

fantastic -I love the new format- I easily clikcked on my picture there and discovered that in 11 years I have not received one single 'like" -isn't that great?:p (heeey i can emoticon crazy now)
happy easter to one and all . We were fortunate this easter to have beautiful weather. An old friend came to visit with his wonderful family and we had a SUP board sesh in Wollongong harbour-the water was so clear you could see the bottom.
Cheers.

Hey folks just wanted to let you know Bob (BigBiscuit) is back in the hospital he had to have another surgery and it was successful. I just spoke to him by text he says he's feeling ok but will probably be there for the week.

Thanks for the heads-up Randy.

Thanks for the hints and shared discoveries.
I've always been awestruck by your "search" prowess. Any first impressions on how this new "regime" compares to the old regarding searches?

The previous platform was abysmal for at least the last year, the indexing so full of Fail that known results proved unsearchable (ie, I'd search for my posts within a thread in which I'd contributed many times, and receive the "nothing matched" message-- which means it did the same when searching for others' posts).

I's so hopeful that Search is all it should be, I's skeert to try.

I will let you know once I make some attempts! o_O

Thank you, Randy, for letting us know about Bob. If you speak with him again, please let him know that we're all thinking about him.

Hi folks,

Hope everyone is well. Just checking in briefly now the site is back up. Ugh! I hate (re)learning this kind of stuff, and don't have time to do it now. Hope to be hanging out again with you all again soon :)

Since Barrett passed on this advice, a "multiquote option" magically appeared overnight at the end of each post (between "Like" and "Reply")! It seems to require an unnecessary step, but it's more convenient than the procedure Barrett shared.

Hope you can head home ASAP, Bob! As always in my prayers.

I understand your reservations, but look forward to hearing your report in the fullness of time.
FWIW, I've done a couple of successful searches (of a single thread and of the entire traditional subforum), but the results don't automatically come back arranged with most recent first. I can fix that with a button in a "Search Again" option, but haven't yet discovered how to make that my default for searching.

Speacial Easter times this year.

It all started the wrong way : while collecting some lily in our small garden I found a set of keys and mirror that clearly had been thrown there by a bag stealer.
Then I had my wallet emptied by a pickpocket (same evil??) while having coffe with friends in a bar.
The forums were closed to me until this morning and the first post I read warned me I am the luckiest of guys, winning an outstanding muslin micarta 13 whittler!
Tout est bien qui finit bien! all's well that ends well!

This place is definitively a special place!!!

1) Yes, Spark has now enabled the visible multi-quote link in each post. Interestingly, there is now also a "+Quote" option when using the Highlight option previously described. I'm thinking I'm going to like this. ;)

2) A quick browse through Technical Support reveals that Spark recently changed the Search Result default to, wait for it, "Most Recent First." Try again!

2a) My brief forays into SearchLand are very, very promising indeed. Once need dictates (or time + curiosity allow) more esoteric attempts, I shall report back. Or just, like, show off or something.

... And here's our ray of sunshine, right on time. :D

Cheers, Jack! I've been thinking of you often, in light of the forum change and other knifely matters.

Hopefully, we'll catch up, or learn to stumble forward together again, soon enough. :)
