"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Hey Joe, gonna bring the babe home in the blower Stang? Never to soon to get em started on the finer points of life.[emoji106]
For sure you gotta drive the Stang home. I was 18 months old when I got my first ride in a "cool" car. Sitting in the front seat of a 1979 Trans Am, black, t-tops, tan interior. Flying chicken on the hood.

Dudes, I ordered the baby a cobra and a mustang onsies, I bought the wife a cobra shirt, I bought me and both the kids new cobra shirts. I was gonna bring them home as a family all wearing cobra shirts. The wife shot that down. "We are drsssing him in something cute!" What's cuter than a baby in a cobra onsie?

So the next push was to bring him home in the mustang.

Yeah, she shot that down too lol!

Actually, I won't even get to bring them home probably. Today should be release day but I'm taking my 5 year old girl in a field trip with school. I promised her months ago, before Ethan's date was set, that I would. I can't back out on that. She would never forget (or forgive me, the turd) if I backed out and Ethan won't ever know that his memaw and not me drove him home.

You got me laughing for sure! Right, a Cobra, what's not to like about that???

We all remember our friend Earl and the unprecedented world tour he took. He concluded his travels in November of 2016 by retiring to the workshop of Tony Bose a most fitting place of retirement for such a world famous adventurer and example to not only Barlows but all traditional pocketknives. I for one so enjoyed following his journey in the beautiful pictures posted by his hosts from around the world.

There were a lot of folks following that thread that posted an interest in hosting Earl in their home but there was just not enough time to get to everyone. So I'm thinking maybe we should sponsor another willing subject to continue the legacy of Earl. Several possible candidates that live with me have said they would love to volunteer for this adventure.

So what do you folks think should we send out another globetrotter or not. If we do this time maybe start with those that had been interested in hosting Earl and then off to where fate may send this new Ambassador of the Porch.

Please post what you think and let me know if there is an interest, if so I would be happy to get the ball rolling.

Way to plan SVT. Even if you got shot down, I respect a man with a plan😀

I think that is an outstanding plan! And I would like to get on that list to host him please

Could we find another esteemed knife maker to host his retirement after his travels are done?

Haha! Thanks! But nothing worked. [emoji53] he rode home in moms xterra. But at least he's home!

Most definitely, Randy. That was a fantastic thread - loved being able to tour all those parts of the world with fine Porchfolk and Earl.

I just missed Earl when he was in Oz, but I'd definitely be up to host one of his cousins.

And - Congratulations Joey and the SVT family on the arrival of your fine lad, Ethan!

Randy, I was on the receiving end and had the great fortune of entertaining EARL. I would step back and watch the neat posts others would post in your thread as I always enjoyed the where's Earl thread:thumbup:

Can you post some knife candidates you have in mind?

I like that idea, Randy! I think that I -- somewhat jokingly -- suggested the same thing the last time I posted in Earl's thread. It was a lot of fun to follow Earl's travels, and it would be great to continue that, although I think the hardest part could be finding an appropriately unique/interesting replacement-Earl. It just wouldn't be the same with any run-of-the-mill knife.

A splendid idea Randy! That would be cool since I missed Earl's trips last time. I didnt know how to apply to receive Earl.

Hope everyone on the porch is well. Been busy the last month travelling overseas for business, holiday and seeing my father and family.
I may have been knife less for the past 4 weeks but at least I've some knives from one of my favourite tattoo artists in Korea.

Interesting set of tattoos. I envy your trip to Korea. I'd love to go there some day.

My wife yelled "grab your camera!".
I managed to get a few shots of this pair of Great Blue Herons about 100 yards away in our back yard. We see one occasionally, but not often. We're on a hill top and the closest water is a pond about 1/2 mile away.

Love the herons, not so sure about the Squirrel though? Their a real pest in the UK, which is a shame as its not really there fault.

Randy, having another "Earl" Clone sounds a great idea. It was a superb thread and allowed us to see places and history we wouldn`t have otherwise.
If you decide to go ahead, i know me and jack would love to take part:thumbup:

Love that shot of the herons Gary. We have many in our front yard. It's actually the back of the house but on the water we call it the front yard. I love the herons, but I'm not a big fan of osprey or squirrels either.

haha squirrel friends! there used to be a squirrel that always climbed up to my air conditioning unit and would love to sleep under it for warmth. I eventually started feeding it and gave it a bowl of water. It did wreck the plants we grew with all its digging and nibbling.

Nice shots Gary. All Creatures Great and Small....

This time of year the Hares are having their leverets out in the bleak open fields. No shots as it's difficult to catch them. Some morons are still out hunting them with their dogs even though it's passed the season, that enrages me.

Thanks, Will
