"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Agreed! Nice to have it back up. Thanks, Spark, for what I'm sure was an awful lot of hard work. I'm looking forward to checking out the new functionality - particularly the increased PM/Conversation limit and attachments.

What a pleasant surprise. It looks really good Spark. Appreciate all the work. Now it's up to me to get acclimated. Glad to be back

I. Hate. Change.

Seriously, I'm sure it will be great once I get used to it, but right now I'm finding the new look hard to read.

Nice to see you, Andi. :)

2 other forums I play on made the switch to this same software over the past year, so I can agree there is a learning curve.
some features I will never be a fan of, but it's a more stable platform, so I understand the need for change.

My thoughts exactly. I'll get used to it, but it's going to annoy me for a while. I just hope there will eventually be a way to view the desktop version of the site on my phone (right now it doesn't seem to be possible). I can't stand mobile versions of websites. (Actually, now that I'm looking at it on my computer, the desktop site sort of looks like an oversized mobile site, so I don't know that it will make much difference. :()

Yesterday we took my in-laws for a drive up to the top of South Mountain in Phoenix. Here's the panoramic view (looking towards downtown Phoenix) from Dobbins Lookout.

The stone ramada at the lookout was built by the CCC in the '30s.

This guy (a giant desert centipede) was crawling around in between the stones of the ramada.

Eleanor was annoyed by the sun but refused to wear her sunglasses; apparently they're better for chewing on.

The TV towers are a little higher up. After driving the narrow, winding (and only) road up to the top, I have no idea how they hauled all of this stuff up here.

On our way back down, park rangers had half the road blocked off where a truck had driven off the edge and sat perched precariously about 30 feet down an incredibly steep slope. How the truck didn't roll is beyond me, but that person got very lucky. (I wasn't able to get a picture of the truck without running the risk of driving off the road myself.)

I have to agree with r8shell on both counts: good to see Andi weigh in on the change, and adjustment is going to take a while for this old dog!

Speaking of hard to read, are there any options where an individual can tailor the "look and feel" of the website to his preferences? For example, given the option, I'd switch to a sans serif font in a heartbeat! I'd also investigate other available options to see if I could make it look more familiar (these emojis look foreign to me ). Fuddy-Duddy is my middle name!

Soon after I joined BF, after being frequently frustrated by double-posts, Crazy Canuck gave me the hint to always preview my posts rather than directly posting a reply. So that's a (bad?) habit I've developed. Can I preview posts ("Go Advanced") in this new format?

And how do I multiquote???:confused::eek::eek:

There are some tools that the old forum had that I can't find on the new software, if they exist at all. :( But I won't miss the frequent crashes. That's for sure. And I'm really glad they changed the selection of emoticons. A bunch of people got in trouble with one of the old ones. They thought it was a fella scratching his head in thought. ummm....no, it wasn't.

I likewise find this new format a bit odd. Don't know what it looks like on phones. I always post from a desk top machine.

You can preview your post by hitting "More Options" then hitting "Preview" on the next page (the second step seems pointless, I don't know why it wouldn't just show you a preview when you hit "More Options", but it doesn't).

You can multi-quote by hitting "Reply" on one post, then hitting "Reply" on the next. Each time it will take you to your reply draft at the bottom of the page (which is annoying, because if you hit "Reply" on a post at the top of the page you'll have to scroll back up to find where you left off), but it will add a quote to your draft for every post you hit "Reply" on.

So far, I've only found "face-based" emoticons here. That's OK, but I was a frequent user of other body parts - just thumbs, Frank! But maybe thumbs up or down are the property of some other social media provider now??

Thanks for the help, Barrett. I'd actually figured out the preview thing on my own, and I agree that it seems like there's an extra step in there. But I hadn't made any multi quote discoveries before noticing an "Alert" that told me you'd quoted a post of mine in this thread, so I came and discovered once again what a helpful guy you are! ;)
