"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I really appreciate the kindness, friendships and support. The porch is a great place because of its members. Many of you know the dog shaped hole left in a family can't be filled without the passage of time, no matter what you try to put in it.

Max has been a faithful companion and fishing buddy for 13 years. When I
start grabbing fishing gear he has always been ready. We have known Max has been in his twilight years for a while as a result he has been on fewer fishing trips and the few have been close to home.

This morning Max was struggling for breath. So we took him for a trip to the after hours vet. It's time. We asked the Dr. to make him comfortable enough to last the rest of the day so the family could say goodbye.

Head out the window to enjoy the ride better. This is how Max likes to travel.

Tomorrow morning Max will go for one last ride. I am going to miss the old boy.

Heartbreaking post Chris. I know how you feel. I'm sorry.

Thanks for sharing the sad news, Chris. Sounds like your family and Max were good for each other , and you'll have lots of good memories to help ease the pain.

Oh Chris, This is terrible news to read, I am deeply saddened o hear about Max, I absolutely love our beautiful faithful companions, and I feel for Max, you and your family in this hard time, Wasnt it great to be able to have given Max a loving safe home that was in all life - his.

Chris, sincere condolences my friend. My heart breaks reading of the loss of Max. What a good boy he was and a good life he has lead. Buddy (my avatars) passed and it broke our hearts, time has eased the loss but I still find myself thinking of him often.

Prayers from North Dakota to offer strength during this time of sorrow.

Gary, I don't know if your user name is related to these birds, but here's a front page story from today's local newspaper. I don't know if the link will even work without a subscription. If you can see the front page photo, you might ask yourself if you'd look good in pants like the falcon has! :D

Gary, My screen name came from one of the characters in Lord of the Rings. Those are pretty cool pants though. I don't think they'd do much for my image though! :D

Peregrine Falcons nest on the side of MT Keira.
a few years ago one alighted on the crossmember of the telegraph pole across the road from my window-almost eye level.
It began to tear apart whatever it had caught -tufts of fur were flying off.
I had an actual pair of talons from a juvenile that had been killed on the road many years ago. They are a formidable set of weapons-the talons are long and sharp but the skin of the feet is dimpled like a wet weather rugby ball for supreme grip.

Peregrin Took!

there are precious few on here that get my obscure LOTR movie references, I usually leave them on the hunting images. Fan of the books or the movies?

Sorry for the misidentification, Gary. I noticed the difference in spelling, but never made the Took connection. Too much "Pippin", rather than "Peregrin", in my memory, I guess.

The peregrine is the no King, no Queen, females being the bigger of the sexes, of the falcon world. They reach speeds of over 200 mph in their chacteristic high altitude dives. Beautiful animals for sure.

I have been a fan of LOTR since reading the novel the first of many times in high school. I thought the movies were well done too, the critics notwithstanding.

I'm a huge fan of all the Middle Earth writings, with perhaps the Silmarillion taking the top prize.

The movies of the Trilogy were excellent, while The Hobbit being made into three movies, not so much.
