"'The curse is come upon [us]!', cried the Lady of Shallot."
"Cheer up", I told her. "Spring is just around the corner."

She poked me in the eye with her shuttle.

Reminds me of my childhood in NY. I laugh to myself when my fellow Texans break out the winter coats when it hits 40F. Back in the day, the kids at school would make fun of anyone who wore a coat before we could see our breath!

*Looks down at Carhartt Bibs and Jacket*

AT LEAST THEY'RE NOT INSULATED! I'M NOT COLD, YOU'RE COLD.

Anytime I leave NY for my place in Florida the people down there apologize every time the temps drop below 70.

All this winter weather discussion feels somewhat related to a little announcement I'd like to share. A couple days before Thanksgiving, my wife was offered a promotion at work. We're excited, of course -- she's definitely worked hard towards this -- but the promotion does come with the requirement that we relocate from Arizona to Minnesota. That means trading off extreme summers and mild winters for mild summers and extreme winters. Apparently we aren't destined to live anywhere temperate. :D

It also means that there's a lot to be done over the next few months (on top of the usual busy-holiday-season stuff). We traveled to MN last week for a few days to look for a place to live, but haven't secured anything yet, so that's at the top of the list. We also have to sell our house here in AZ, although it seems like the market is good right now, so hopefully that won't be too difficult.

As a result of all this, I haven't done a great job at keeping up with things on the forum the last few weeks, but I've been trying to pop into some of my favorite threads occasionally and contribute a little here and there.

Here are a couple pictures of Eleanor from our trip last week, checking out some dead leaves (something we don't really have in AZ) and trying on a warm hat. :D

Good luck with the move, Barrett! We'll still be here when you get settled!

I need to quit posting in traffic, but it’s so boring. I went 17 miles up the road and I’ve been in a car for over 2 hours. Atlanta traffic _____.

I know the Tech engineer that designed the Tom Moreland interchange (Spaghetti Junction) for the DOT, want his number :D

I think its snowed only three times since then,JB ! I had no idea it was going to or I would of tried to get some plants in. I just can't carry much yet..oh well.

It may have been 1997, can't remember the date for sure. Folks were going bonkers. I flew into Lubbock in 1978 and it snowed the next day, it's pretty close the the New Mexico border IIRC. Not much just a dusting, but snow in Texas is an event. I love the Hill country, my mom and dad lived in San Antonio before he shipped out to the CBI theater.

It really is an event when it snows here. The Hill country is so beautiful covered in snow. This is not expected to last too long. My friends up North laugh at what we think of as snow down here. I understand, I've been up there and see that shoveling snow gets old quick.

Its snowing :eek::):D 50 F tomorrow o_O
I haven't turned on the heater yet, so I just pulled out some more blankets. I've got a devious genius plan. The rats that nested under the house last winter are looking for somewhere nice and warm, and I'm waiting until they settle under the neighbor's house.

It last snowed here in 2011, almost an inch. When I was a little kid, I lived in Pennsylvania. Snow meant fun and sometimes a day off school. I never had to shovel it or drive in it. I predict it will melt off when the sun comes up tomorrow, or the city will shut down for the day. :) Sorry about your plants, though.

For Minnesota:
Stormy Kromer hats
Sorel boots
Chopper mittens (deerskin with wool liners)

You won’t need that stuff every day, but when you do, you will be glad you have it.
Remember, if it’s cold, you can always add another layer. If it’s hot, once you are naked, that is as far as you can go.

A devious plan indeed. Your cat needs lessons from mine...one a night sometimes. She is a killer on the prowl  Yes..I've had the plants for years. I will start again when I heal up . I got the Ficus triangularis my Mom started in :D, so it should be fine. I just went on a walk in the Winter wonderland...beautiful. Now if I can just get the Boots to come in...lol. Stay warm Rachell ;):)

LOL...Henry ! I bet it gets mighty cold in Minnesota, but at least your can style in that fine gear :D
