Carothers and Guns

All this cz talk is going to have me in the shop again too soon... Actually walked in Friday to grab a p10f but walked out with this guy.
Excellent shooters, the VP9’s are. With Hornady Critical Duty or Critical Defense mine can make very nice groups at ranges most would consider outside “ regular “ pistol distances. mine has the slightest trigger creep when dry firing but it’s not something I’ve ever noticed when actually shooting the thing.
The only two issues I had with mine are minor. first was that the mag release stuck up slightly into the trigger guard with a mag inserted. I fixed that by knocking out the roll pin and then slightly bending the mag catch bar- turned out perfect and no longer rubs my long tentacle like finger.
Second is that the gun has a tremendous amount of blow back when firing suppressed. No fix for that other than making sure I don’t forget to wear glasses when I shoot- which I always try to do anyway.

This was a basic 1992 Springfield Armory 1911-A1 with parkerized finish. I had it customized by a local pistol smith, and had the frame hard chromed and the slide deep blued OG style. It has a Bar-Sto barrel. It use to have a sub 3 pound trigger, and a drop in beaver tail. However, I changed it back to a 4 pound trigger, and the original hammer and grip safety. I didn’t like how the drop in beaver tail looked, and the trigger was just too light in case I wanted to use it for defense.

BTW do any fellow Busse enthusiasts recognize the grips? Those are black paper micarta Busse grips. I also got a set of black G10, Black & Tan G10, and Snakeskin micarta.

Gus, I bought myself a Wheeler digital trigger pull gauge and although I am not that good yet at using it properly, I measured the SA trigger pull on my S&W 686 SSR in the low to mid 2s which scares the cr*p outta me for being so light, but of course under normal circumstances it's a DA with a pull of around 10 pounds .

You did the right and the conscious thing my Man with going for 4 lb. with a SA 1911

I haven’t measured mine but I can imagine it’s around the 2-3lb mark.

Dave, the rubber CZ grips are CRAP! The higher end ones with the aluminum grips are good/cool but most CZ guys with the lower end CZs go with LOK grips, some with VZ and then there's another maker named Cool Hand something...

Local place has a used(200 rounds) p09 with a full cajun job at 650 out the door. The siren calls...

Selling a used weapon is very difficult here in CA. By and large, most folks just consign to their local place and they tend to sit for a looong time. I always look at the used display just as a matter of curiosity but a lots of them are jalopies, at least for my tastes. I bet you $ to donuts that in this recent gun buying hysteria, most of those jalopies must've flown outta doors too.

I think that a P09 is the polymer version, right? I'm not familiar much with those but I still think that the gun itself must have an MSRP in the $500ish range. A CGW full pro kit runs in the mid 200s and if CGW does the job, add another $250-$300 for the labor, maybe m ore. That P09 sounds like good deal OTD, specially since you can unload relatively easily, me thinks, it if you don't end up liking it.

Still with the training wheels but the HDMC is always ready to go ;)

I was planning on doing the following stuff but now wondering if a prudent thing to take on in this climate because I'm a novice DYI'er! I mean I rather have a supposedly working one with less capacity than a p*mped out one done by yours truly :D

As you have gathered by now, I've been on a bit of a gun buying binge as of late. CZs this, CGW upgrades that, blah, blah... But I keep coming back to this little blued beauty, my first handgun now running almost 25 YO (and I'm not the original owner!) in my possession albeit very little use even for range (100 rds in total?). I didn't have to d*ck with this, no trigger work, nothing, nada, other than very basic maintenance and newer grips as my older walnut grips had lost the PB medallion. Something to say for these older craftsmanship so I'm very glad that Nathan keeps up with the old traits which he infuses with his newer and modern methods:

The 9x17mm or .380 ACP doesn't pack a punch like the hand-canons which we Americans can own here in the U.S but believe me when I say that a 2 legged riff-raff doesn't wanna be on the wrong end of either of these two ^

Very nice pairing.

I ask a lot of folks the same question when they turn their nose up at .380, 9mm, even .22 - "Do you want to get hit with that?" The answer is generally a short "no".

Thank you Dylan :) I just recently got back into the weapon buying game. Prior to that, CA resident, kids in the house, not much time for other hobbies, yada, yada... My recent binging has nothing to do with the pandemic other than dumb-luck timing!

As someone who is getting back into an old old hobby, having been out of touch and all that, one only learns by laying out the cash because if/when misspent, that's the best education as long as that person has functioning brain cells and values his $$$. My little .380 ACP Beretta was always plenty enough for a nice and secure neighborhood for a suburb of San Diego County :) Had I been living in the sticks or a ranch/farm in say TX, I'd pack everyday with my LTC something with much more oomph, a lot more ;)
