Carothers and Guns

I have 2 1911's - a VBob and a S&W E series. Both fantastic pistols for their respective prices! I actually shoot the E a little better, maybe, but it doesn't carry quite as well. CC'ing a full size 1911, is no easy feat, so the VBob is the better choice in that regard.

I can always go Wilson Combat but I may need to take out the engine & the tranny outta my Tundra to sell for one of those and then keep pushing my Tundra on our roads! Yup looks like I will have to swallow my OCD driven angst for SS finish and go with the 4.3" bobtail. They're all currently sold out anywhere which I've looked here locally.

Might be a good idea to do a little more research on Wilson Combat first. At one time, they were well regarded. I've been hearing more complaints the past few years though, but it's never been on my radar enough to look into it more.

Discount gunmart had one last month but after all this craziness I'm not sure it is still there. Maybe give them a call? The Santee location had one too.

It saul goodman ;) I'll never spend the equivalent of a kid's starter car price on a handgun!

Rather not join the over the top fun of ar15 forums again so let me ask here!

Anyone have any experience with recent bcm products? I have some of their older gear but I'm agonizing over a new upper and want to make sure they're as reliable as my old stuff. Looks like the price certainly went up...

More specifically looking at the forged enhanced light weight upper for one of my new lower builds. Eyeballing the mk2.... End goal being most reliable I can get with good accuracy. Don't want to take chances on this upper.

Said I'd follow up... Albeit a week late on the vp9/p09 after some rounds. Similar conclusions without having all my Vp9 parts in yet.

The divergence in intended purpose of each became very apparent over the weekend. Just check the sight profile. I even swapped out the stock Vp9 sights for some trueglo(which are actually very nice for their purpose- gogo tritium!) I stand behind ergos going to the vp9 and the 18lb ss spring helped recoil/cycling and is good now with 115 grain.

I'd target shoot with the p09, but I'll be carrying the vp9 for now. A lot to be said about how a gun fits you. Much like the fk1 vs fk2, both great, but one obviously has a bit more time into how you interact with it.

BCM makes quality stuff and one of the first brands I recommend. For the price, they are a solid choice. I have shot their recent stuff and have been with 30 plus guys that are running them and we have yet to see any one of them fail. They have a great hand guards too.:thumbsup:

Casinostocks Casinostocks my h.d. shotgun is the only weapon I have ever had to figure out what ammunition works best to cycle the action. Not sure if this is the application, but if you have designs on this as a home defense weapon, please make sure it will eat what you feed it.

I had an issue that my pump action would not cycle, where the base rim of the shell would hang up on the head of a rivet inside the action. It would prevent the slide from fully traveling and it would not eject the spent shell.

It was resolved with a little homespun gunsmithing, and finally running another 25 rounds of heavy weight ammo through it to prove it out.

Point being, rattle some teeth to be satisfied that's all that happens when it might count later.

Thanks Tony, I'll address it in here because I inadvertently managed to make the COVID thread int an ammo thread! Typical of my propensity for thread hijacking

Absolutely man, goes without saying... Benelli shotty specs are among the only ones which are GTG with 2 3/4 + 3 + 3 1/2... I will try those claims out with some of my trailer-boys-posse one of these moons ;)

One of the things I really like about the Benelli M4. After break-in with a couple hundred high brass loads, it eats everything from light to heavy.

Federal Flite Control #1 (Yeah, rarer than hen's teeth. Wonder what I could sell my small stash for?), with a Black Magic Magnum at the end, and more BMMs in the side saddle (I figure if a few rounds of #1 buck don't do the job, barrier penetration might be desirable).

I don't put it past myself to go for an M4 soon... The SuperNova is a nice entry level Benelli Shotty but the M4 is a grail :) Only thing holding me back is that silly ATF rule 922r vis a vis imported rifles/shottys and the 13 required congruent parts!

Lost track of where I was.

I run a Benelli as my main field gun (M1 Super 90) and would rely on it without hesitation. If you are going to put an auto loader in a h.d. role, there would be no better choice than a Benelli.

922r would only come into play if you intend to swap things out. Eg. If you want to use one of the excellent titanium extended mag tubes, you're covered for 922r by also swapping the mag follower and the trigger kit FFT sells (trigger, hammer and disconnector).

If you also want to swap the OEM stock for the collapsible version, then it might be best to just get one that originally came with the OEM collapsible stock.

I have an Benelli M1 Super 90, awesome shotgun. I haven’t found an ammo yet, wether cheap or expensive, that it won’t cycle 100% reliably. That Benelli Action is the epitome of reliability!
I thought about picking up the M4 but haven’t had one in hand and that stock looked like it would be brutal on the check weld. How is it in actual use?
@1AbominAble1

I didn't find it bad, aside from the Orangutan LOP.

I ended up getting an ATI Raven stock. Although it's a little bulkier and heavier than the Benelli collapsible, it shoots even softer, and a little more weight towards the rear isn't an issue, and it makes it easier for the 922r parts count.
