Carothers and Guns

Pretty sure that's a glock specific issue. I'm not a glock fan, but if I'm not mistaken, there's something about their barrels that have issues with those hardcast rounds and wad cutters, too.
You might be thinking of a different issue.

Glock advised against shooting uncoated lead bullets through their polygonal barrels.

Here's Buffalo Bore's take on it

***And to allay concerns, Underwood coats their Hardcast bullets with a polymer coating, but as mentioned, a different issue than what I was talking about.

Btw, I just read about a hunter killing a grizz south of Ennis, MT a few days ago. Hopefully more details will be released.

I read that also. Notice how all the stories about this say: "Be prepared and carry bear spray". ahem, Be prepared and carry your defensive side arm and know how to use it! We also carry bear spray and would try to use it first as long as bear isn't charging. We are not out to kill a grizzly just for the fun of it. Our guns are our last resort and more specifically the wife carries as a last ditch if the bear is on me. She knows to fire until it stops or gets off me just for the fact that if the bear has put me down its coming after her next.

Yup. Curious bears vs an actual attack.

BTW, EMCEE EMCEE
After you get a holster (the Gunfighters Inc Kenai chest rig is definitely highly recommended), try doing some Bill Drills at 7-10 yards with the Hardcast ammo, if possible (draw, and fire 6 shots A-zone, for time). Decent drill for a bear attack.

Agreed. Everytime I've ever seen a bear, it's because I'm downwind. The wind is blowing in my face and the bear is in front of me.

I don't want my only defense to be something that can be negated by wind direction. Especially since I grew up in Wyoming and I visit wilderness areas there. The wind can be intense, which is one of many reasons I moved to Utah!

Imo, the dramatic difference in bear spray effectiveness between a curious bear and an aggressive bear does not get emphasized enough. For anyone who's interested, this article is definitely worth a read:

X 2. Hopefully you have access to a range that allows holster work and movement. If so, train using both, under as much simulated duress as possible. And even that doesn't prepare you much for a target that is coming at you at 35 mph. A lot of people fool themselves about their ability to put rounds on target accurately in that scenario.

Also, for those running the M&P, Wolff offers this steel guide rod (designed for the .45 version, but works just fine in the 10mm model as well), which then allows you to tune your recoil:

Not sure if anyone is offering a similar steel guide rod option for the Sig?

….@ M67, have you ran any 200 or 220 grain Buffalo Bore or Underwood hard cast rounds through it. If so, how’d they perform ? Thank you.
Nothing through it yet. Lucked into it this past Saturday unexpectedly. For hardcasts was going to try some 200gr underwoods and wasn’t expecting to shoot them just yet, but if weather cooperates this weekend I can and let you know

Really hoping someone does a threaded barrel for these soon outside of Bar Sto

I won't be too surprised if Sig comes out with a 'Tac-ops' version of the X-Ten at some point.

Looking forward to range reports from both of you on the X-Ten.

I don’t think Sig will support a threaded barrel for this model, just don’t think they have it in them. I can see a comp model like the X5 AXG Legion, Macro comp, etc.

Even with the FN 510 being threaded I haven’t seen people really running them suppressed, it’s a niche thing

I just like to run everything with a can 🤣

Yeah, maybe not. Sig can certainly be hard to predict. Maybe Faxon or someone else will go there.

For me, the 10mm is a field carry pistol, so a suppressor wouldn't really be practical, but I'd certainly consider putting a comp on it.

I'm in the same boat. I carry it on hikes and camping trips where I know there are large predators. The chest holster I run would make a suppressor very uncomfortable. Besides, if I have to discharge the firearm due to a charging bear, I want that loud "BANG" to go off for two reasons. 1. It might deter/scare the animal
2. It could potentially alert other people to the danger

😂😂😂 Ur killin me smalls !!! I’m hunting for a chest rig for sure. Thong u say? Nope……I’m goin commando so the giant mosquitos have sumpin to wrassel with ! Lol !
I know Bluemax recommended a holster, but Diamond D makes phenomenal chest rigs if you prefer leather. They are very popular up here. I like having more protection and having the adaptability of the holster, and Diamond D is simply great.

I appreciate this brother. I ordered the kydex rig the same day I purchased the gun. I’ll definitely check out the Diamond D leather rig though. Can’t have “too much of a good thing”, right ?
