You have a photo of it? You must have timed that just right!!!

I don't know if I can use the photo so here the link..

I believe timing was essential. His black camp knife was sweet as well but I couldn't afford them both :). At least not yet.

Seeing the craftsmanship that goes into his blades (plus the fact san mai is my favourite blade type) was the clincher..

I can't wait to see how yours turn out Ryan..

Its gonna be sweet..

Ryan,

This collaboration knife with Claudio is looking fantastic! I look forward to seeing how you finish it up. :)

After I bought one of Claudios compact choppers I just had to read through this thread for the second time (while I wait for mine to arrive...). :)

I love seeing how it's all been done and thanks for sharing all the work in progress photos.

Look forward to seeing the finished knife!

The blade is looking AWESOME!! Claudio's blades consistently look GREAT.

Looking forward to seeing the progression to completion.

Thanks again everyone for the comments. I received the knife on Thursday before I headed to the airport, I took a few minutes to sit down and open up the package very carefully. The knife is absolutely beautiful, I knew it would be but to see it in person is a pure joy. I took a few photos and will post them up now. Then when I get home I will get started on my end of the project. I can only hope I do this Blade justice!

Claudio, no un increíble trabajo mi amigo! Gracias por darme la oportunidad de participar en este proyecto.

That blade is absolutely gorgeous, Claudio you an amazingly talented artist and craftsman! Ryan, I am super anxious to see the fantastic handle that I know you will make for this stunning project!

Thank you all for the compliments!

Ryan, I'm glad that you have the blade.
We want to see as follows! There is no doubt, you will do a fantastic job!
I also want to see his signature on the other side of the blade.

I'm so glad I didn't miss this thread! Two very talented makers working together. Seeing more of what goes into the making of a fine knife...the planning, equipment, materials and fabrication, make me respect even more the talents and dedicated hard work necessary for a top-shelf knife.
Fabulous Ryan and Claudio!

I really appreciate the kind words Robert! I am in a little over my head on this one. I am a huge fan of Claudio's work and feel honored to be able to collaborate with him.

Thank you all for the compliments!

Thanks Claudio! I will be taking my time to get everything just right, I have a few good local resources that have offered their help if needed along the way. I am still learning and am really looking forward to doing this!

After I got the knife in the mail I decided to re-visit the previous design. I really feel that you have to have the item in your hands to know what it needs along the way. I did make a few subtle changes, and am still open to more as I progress.

I will be trimming the Stick tang a little bit to assure there is enough wood in the finger area. I want the handle to have the CAS look and feel but still be something that would come out of my shop.

I fought tooth and nail on the lines / angles of the butt of the knife and still feel it could be improved upon. Claudio's handles always have that nice curved pinky well and sculpted lines on the side of the handles! Mine will hint at those features but be a bit more subdued.

The guard will be from Nickel Silver, I will have some spacers to add some depth. Bog Oak is in the lead for the handle material at this time, It will definitely be Dark Stabilized wood!

I would love to hear your thoughts!
Ryan

The sketch looks fantastic, Ryan! It's hard to say without seeing the piece in person, but I'm wondering how it would look/feel if you angled the top line of the handle just a few degrees higher, so that it counterbalances the harpoon spine as well as fill the hand a bit more.

Thanks for posting Shawn! I actually have a few designs drawn up and really like one that had a slight angle up on the handle. It definitely had the more rounded Butt due to the angle change.

This is what I call "Design #1"

Freehand grinding a swedge on a wheel Batman! That's amazing! I mean, the whole thing is amazing, but that's the single most difficult thing (to me, anyway) I've seen on this whole WIP and it looks perfect. Thanks for putting this together.

Hey Travis - did you notice that he was crouching down to do it too!

Well that would make my life a little easier Lorien and Mack! :p

I like it, I will have to re visit the design a little. I still need the drop on the spine near the butt I think! I appreciate the suggestion

I have really enjoyed this thread. The blade is incredible and I'm sure the handle will be as well. I can't wait to see the finished product.
