Case Tony Bose Collabs pic and discussion thread.

Wow!! Congratulations J jeffbird ! That is beautiful. Tony would shape the handles before he jigged them. That way he did not lose hardly any of the jigged pattern during the finishing process.

When makers buy their bone already dyed and jigged most of the jigging around the edges is completely gone by the time the knife is finished, along with some of the color.

I imagine Case could not justify doing it the hard way. I have to say that I was very disappointed that Case is not collaborating with Reese on future knives. Nothing against Bill Ruple at all, but I respected Tony so much that the news just left me flat.

Thought this small bit of history of a collab might be of interest here. I have picked up a handful of Case Bose collabs and really enjoy them. The 2019 Bullnose is my favorite and I carry it every day.

Attending a knife show for the first time ever at the Texas Blade Show in Fort Worth on Friday and Saturday, I stumbled into finding a real Tony Bose version of the Bullnose and bought it last Friday.

After sharing it on a Tony Bose facebook page this morning, a couple of previous owners of it posted that this was one of two actual prototypes Tony made for Case to measure for the 2019 Case Bose Bullnose.

Tony sent two knives to Case as prototypes, one completed and this one that could be taken apart for measurements for specs. The prior owner referred to it as the “gold piece,” as it was the one from which specs were taken. Tony then later finished this knife and donated it for a fundraiser benefit. Note the “XX” stamp on the blade.

I surprised myself in actually buying it and was shocked to learn the history of it. Talk about stumbling into some luck.

Comparing it side by side with my Case Bose collab, Case did a wonderful job with their production of the Bullnose I carry everyday. They are very close to the original.

These two will be with me to my end days.

A special thanks to GusSharp68 for being my sounding board on whether to buy it. 😊👍

Wow that's an incredible history for that knife, congrats man!!!

Thanks for the post Greg Leslie Tomville Leslie Tomville . It makes sense to do the jigging last and if anyone knew how to add beauty to function it would’ve been Mr. Bose. I didn’t have the connection to him that you did so I’m looking forward to a Case/Ruple collaboration in a different way. The Saddlehorn you posted is my grail, and that one is particularly attractive.

VERY cool! Love the Wilfred IN as well. I say that as a Southern Indiana kid.

Picked up a 2000 Millennium Trapper at a very reasonable price. It needed just a touch of TLC and it soon was shining and glowing once again. This design has an elegant feel in hand, similar to a slightly smaller version of the Bullnose. Very neat medium size design with beautiful workmanship. The pull is perfect, a bit lighter than the later years I have.

Wow what an awesome photo! It might be one of the clearest photos of the Millennium Trapper I've seen yet - they're really not posted often and the swedges on the thin clip blades on the collboration knives are really highlighted in that model. Also thanks for sharing the photo of the Tony Bose original Bullnose Trapper - it's neat how close the Case collaboration gets but the real deal is truly something else.

Thank you and you’re welcome Dennis.

Yes, comparing the one Tony made side by side with Case’s work is interesting.

I have bought some collabs that I returned due to rubbing on a liner, but when they do it right, their work is very close to the prototype. If there is an issue, send it in and it will be fixed. There is no excuse for the erractic quality. Why they ever let them out the door is really hard to understand.

And as a supplement to Dennis’ chart, here is a link to an old post that has good info on the collabs through 2009 including MSRP and numbers made.
