That particular blade finish from Busse (double cut) is more prone to rust. The stain on the handle was visible in the pics in the for sale thread.
Rust on the tubes in the handle is something I've not seen on any Busse I've ever seen or owned. Including canoeing, rafting, swimming with them (including chlorine water in a pool, followed by hours of not wiping off just to see what would happen....nothing).
Those marks would likely not have bothered me, I know I'm going to rough the knife up anyway.
It's how some one handles expressed dissatisfaction.
I bought a custom chopper, and a sheath knife from a maker. They were not his knives. He had them from abother maker.
Not much description. Pics not very great, and did not show all angles.
I jumped on the deal.
The knives had serious grind defects. Way off. The edge is ground or possible quenched off (may have taken a bend in quench or in grinding).
Clip grinds way way off. Etc, etc, etc. I email the seller.
His response was that he had not observed all the issues. They were early purchases from the makers career and never used.
I was pretty steamed.
But his initial response included that if I was not happy with the deal, he could refund, or do something else to address my displeasure. He wanted to know what I thought would make it right. What would make me a satisfied buyer.
My response was that the immediate offer to do something about my issues, the act of asking how to make it right was all I needed to hear.
No further action required to make my anger dissipate. I did not leave feedback, negative or other wise.
It is what happens after something is not right that matters to me.
I did not ask for more photos. I did not ask if the edge was straight, or if the grind lines were on.
I should have asked more questions about the piece. The price was low enough that I did not. And that should have been the point at which I asked for more pics.
With an accurate description, I may not get my money back entirely.
But I learned from it.
I did miss out on other knives that would have made me more happy! That is the big lesson for me.
