CBM's - Customized Benchmade's

Those look awesome!! Congrats!

Nice work deathofallthings!! Hope to some of these available for the full size grips soon!

There will be large ones... waiting on some time on the CNC lathe at work to crank out barrel spacers for large ones. Hopefully soon, everyone keeps asking for them, so I'd like to make the people happy.

Here's my first go at it. I made some scales out of Rosewood for my mini barrage.

From the pictures it looks like you did a great job. Making scales for knives with the AXIS lock is a pain.

So made a bunch of these. I have like 2-3 of each, but only one of each bead blasted already.
Pictures aren't great... snow in my usual place was causing havoc with my camera's light sensor or whatever. So tried pictures inside, but now they're a little washed out. They have more color to them in real life.

The original, OD Green Canvas Micarta. Picture's a little washed out, they're more green in real life.

Toxic Green G10

Red and Black G10

Hunter Orange G10... Probably won't lose this one.

Green Brown And Black G10

Grey and Black G10

Green and Black G10

Double Green Canvas Micarta... which is actually brown... don't ask me.

Double Green and Double Black... again brown and black

Blue and Black 2x2 G10

Blue and Black 1x1 G10

And no line up would be complete with out Black G10.

You have all of those spare handles, how do you get them? I'm very new to the making of knives and customization. Can you buy them take them off of other ones, or make them yourself?

Thanks. I'm a fan of the solid colors myself. I think I might get some solid blue and solid grey next time.

I make them. You can check out the sale thread in my signature if you're interested.

As simple as these may seem, there is more to them than meets the eye.
When working on a Griptilian; I really like to cater to the jimping.
I love the rounded edges.
It makes your grip super comfy.
But, I am delighted when I get it to where the jimping shows up like a row of teeth in a smile.
That is sweetness.

This stuff is very grippy, like most micarta.
It starts out a light brown.
But, will darken with age and use to a dark reddish brown.
This is one of my favorite materials.
The last pic is a set of these scales after years of use.

Well I guess I will join the Ritter club and introduce my first custom scaled axis lock made from scratch by hand. I just call it the Ranger Ritter.

I do have to give thanks to this thread and the advice from those participating. There is a lot of good information in this thread that help prepare me for the challenge of the mini-griptilian.

I have to admit it was quite a lot of work over the past three days pretty much non stop. I just have very simple hand tools and a dremel. Quite a lot of sanding and threading standoffs. I will be doing one or two more of my personal knives, but I will have to wait a while to rest up. Hand and back took some punishment.

You may notice I did use a different technique for fitting the mini-griptilian liners in the scales. The metal liners sit in the G-10 (black) liners. I simple cut out the shape in G-10 using the liner as a template. The axis lock recess is in another G-10 liner (orange) along with very minimal inletting of the linen micarta scale. This particular approach reduces the need for extensive milling and keep the metal liners sitting square in the scales. I thought it was a pretty novel idea and I was apprehensive about milling out the liner shape one slab of handle material. Pretty stoked it all worked out.

A few more pics...

Now if I could get my hands on a black oxide low ride BM Adamas or BM Contego clip it would be perfect for what I envisioned. I do have a polished one (new) to trade if anyone wants too.
