That is Black Paper Micarta in a pattern called Diamond Eyes.
No, I did not.
Not only is the surface textured; but the textured face of the scale is not flat, it's contoured.
Thinner on the edges and thicker in the middle.

Got a small batch of large sets done.
First off, Sorry these are all kind of over exposed again and you're only getting a picture of one side because I'm tired of taking my knife apart all the way over and over again... you'll have to use some imagination.
Same deal as the mini. CNC'd, barrel spacers, beadblasted etc

OD Green Canvas Micarta (Definitely lighter in color than the last batch.)

Awhile back there was a guy on the bay who fabricated these aluminum scales in a few different colors.
I think 15-20 total. I finally bit on the blue.
Here are a couple more pics.
