Numbers are in, our insurance premiums are going up 49.79%.

Balls. Mine went up 5%, but that's a much lower rate than previous increases, and our coverage is better now too... :/

Hope everyone had a good Saturday! I carried my DFK Ti frikkie today, such a light, handy blade. Nice work Daniel.

Thanks and enjoy Liamstrain!

I'm still feeling rough so not getting a ton done... I'm taking today off and plan to be in the shop all of next week. It's about to drive me nuts!

You guys have a good one!

Morning guys!

Daniel, I know the complete and total suckage that is being sick for so long. Can just drive you crazy! But, hang in there and try not to do too much stuff.

Hope you're having fun with that new baby!

Morning DFK fans! Welcome to Blade Forums MrDrewBear. That's as good a start as any.

My older boy is sick as of yesterday night. I am a zombie today... Kids are exhausting! You have lots of getting sick to do in the future, get well now Daniel!

Oh, knives.. Right... Pics of what's on the wall? :)

Sloth, my boy has been sick with some sort of sinus infection for the last week. Dr.'s didn't really know what was up, but he has tons of drainage going down the back of his throat, poor little guy has been couching his head off, all night too.

DrewBear, welcome from over the pass!

Welcome to THE forum!

D you still breathing?

Gonna work on some more stuff tonight. Feels like I have a wall full of semi finished steel and virtually nothing finished. I did manage to blow up my Bandsaw though. It was the one I inherited from her grandfather. Gotta replace it, but that may wait until after the holidays.

X you mentioned way long ago about a good hacksaw. The one I had blows. Got any good links?

Bobby, I have a Lennox 4012 high tension hacksaw which is what was available at a local farm hardware store, but the Stanley 12" high tension saw at home depot is a good one too. Rigid frame, heavy duty construction is important, but the blades are the biggest factor. Lennox 24tpi bi-metal blades are fantastic. If cutting thicker stuff either take a break often or use a coolant. The blades will get very hot.

Not sure if the Stanley model has it or not, but my Lennox I can put the blade at a 45° angle so the top of the frame doesn't run into the stock I'm cutting if it's a longer cut. A good vise and bench will make things much easier too.

Also, don't forget to switch arms, you'll get buff on one side otherwise, lol!

Welcome, MrDrewBear
Bobby, listen to the X-man about the hacksaws......I doubted him once and quickly learned the error of my ways. "Hi Tension" is the key here. You may want to add a porta-band saw to your arsenal of cutting tools also. With the porta-band, as with the hacksaw, good quality blades are very important. You could just get a carbide grill and chew through the steel like D does....I think Snody made D's grill custom for him.
Wilson, I hope that new job is going well for ya!

Yeah I have a portaband, but its setup for steel. I was hoping to keep my other bandsaw going at high RPM for wood. Also my hacksaw now pretty much blows, so I wanted to replace it haha

The cool thing about band saws is that they will cut anything softer than they are designed for. A steel cutting saw can cut wood, but a wood saw cannot cut steel. Sure it's slow going with a steel saw, but it's not bad.

You guys know those big gnarly camp saws that work by hand, lol I actually cut a bunch of wood scales with one. it was fast for the cutting but took a long time to clean up. :D

Yo!

Not much going on here but have a big week planed! I'm going to take it easy but get some time in, I need to at least to have some fun making knives!

I'm curing two pork tenderloins in a brine made from maple syrup, kosher salt, brown sugar, garlic, bay leaves and a bit of curing salt. Cold smoking will follow in a few days! Canadian Bacon!

Those Porta-bands sound nice, I think I will eventually get one and the SWAG stand. lol I still have no band saw but then again the chop saw is generally all I need. I have this wide piece of dammy that won't fit in it though...

FBC thanks for the email, those CPM154 blades are looking good!

Farchyld keep up the great work! You guys should check it out...

Sloth - get well! I hear you dude!

MrDrewBear - great to have you here! my goal here is for everyone to have fun, share stories and knowledge. And beer pics and stuff! :D

WooHoo! Looks like I get a mini vacation after thanksgiving, my mother in law is taking my son to Las Vegas for a few days! Gonna be nice sleeping in and eating out for a few days at home without spending a ton of money I don't really have.

Although we have flights from town here for $29 round trip. Might just go myself soon.
