Cheers! GEC Sudbuster 715222

Chalk me up as one of those who were a little disappointed in the finish of the new Sudbuster.
I will probably be crucified for this but I know they’ve been ramping up production on the 65’s and this run. I’m really hoping the 65 blade rap issues and the QC issues so far with this run is not indicative of what the future of higher production total GEC runs will look like. I will struggle to justify GEC prices for sub GEC fit and finish. I know it’s a farm and field, but it’s still a $115 knife with random variations in pulls and poor finishes. ☹️ If this was the same old $60 F and F, it would be a whole different story!

Wow scored a black paper version. We will see how the QC is on it. My natural micarta version is good. Mine does have the scratches from opening the lifter.

Chalk me up as one of those who were a little disappointed in the finish of the new Sudbuster. There were scratches on the caplifter and an uneven satin finish.

Vertical scratches on both sides of the blade.

The secondary bevel was not very even. There was a spot on the belly of the blade where it was nonexistent. At the point of the blade there was a small rounded point of metal that took quite a lot of sharpening to get rid of. Also, the finish on the Micarta handles is not as good as I am used to on past F&F knives. The handle finish is polished in most areas, but not well polished on the sides. The champered edges of the sides of the micarta look like the person doing the work started and stopped several times instead of doing it all in one swipe. All of the issues I have mentioned are ones that would not be noticed from 2 ft away. I had to put my reading glasses on to notice, so basically only noticeable to people like us that really pay attention to these details.

On the positive side, most of this is stuff that isn’t a big deal as the knife is intended to be a working man’s knife. If you know how to sharpen a knife to your liking then you just might have a little work to do right off the bat. The action on both tools is just right for me. The cap lifter does require more strength than the main blade. I’d put the main blade at a 5.5 and the caplifter at a 8 on my scale.

My only issue with this run is that the main blade is duller than a butter knife (typical of many GECs), but mine does have an edge that goes all the way along the blade.

The caplifter is as dull as a, well, caplifter so at least they got that right. 😂

Jeez these look so cool. I've seen some of the black versions pop up here and there but I haven't seen any of the dealers start selling them yet. Did I miss the drop already?

Just got mine today. It's got to be the dirtiest GEC I've ever gotten. I've flushed in a half dozen times and still have grit coming out. At this point my wife just thinks I'm playing with it. 🤣

But besides that it has good centering and I'm a big fan of the micarta this run.

It still is the same old $60 farm and field, inflation doesn't effect the process just the cost. But this is probably a discussion for a different part of the forum, so I will stop here.

Looking at my latest itemized grocery receipt. Seems like about a dollar more for each item, roughly, through my glasses after a long day at work.
