Geesh, this thing will just never die.
Yeah, I'm a friend of Mick's, and am proud to be his friend. I have always been proud to be his friend, and I'm proud for a couple reasons. He's a VERY talented and creative knifemaker, witness the fact that so many intellectually and creatively bankrupt hack knifemakers copy the shape and essence of his designs. Secondly, he's absolutely one of the most honorable people I've ever met. Was he always so? Were you?
For the past three years I've attended the Best Ranger competiton at Ft Benning, GA. Mick has always been there (why I went in the first place) and during the couple days I'm at the competition we meet a LOT of U.S. Army Rangers. Now, here's something you don't do, not ever. You do not attend the U.S. Army Best Ranger Competition and tell a lot of U.S. Army Rangers you were a U.S. Army Ranger and not have been a U.S. Army Ranger. I've been there; I've witnessed the respect with which Mick is treated while there; I've had the priviledge of being given a tour of the entire Ranger facility by a Ranger First Sergeant because I was a friend of Mick's. You do NOT fool First Sergeants, about much of anything, but most certainly about your military career.
Now, all you hot shot keyboard commandoes (including Thompson and MadDog) who want to badmouth Mick for having done this or not having done that, the resolution of this issue is simple. The Best Ranger competition is open to the public; you are free to attend. I suggest you do that when it's held in a couple months. You can meet Mick, a lot of his friends, and a whole lot of Rangers and you can say what's on your mind. PLUS, you can also meet a couple Marine Scout Snipers, Maybe an Airforce Foreward Air Controller or two, and a few other high energy types who are so fond of hanging out with frauds.
Come to think of it, maybe that's why so many of Mick's detracters don't hang out there. I wonder how many who have written crap here have actually served in the military and are therefore entitled to offer an opinion on this subject. I'll bet it's far fewer than the number of military personnel who hang out at the Strider booth at any knifeshow. If any of you visit the Blade Show you should stop by and find out.
Honorable men have friends; weasels have opinions.
