Here's my idea: I want to have a wide-bladed dagger, .22" thick, 1.5" wide, blade length 7". Hollow-ground, with a rather sudden tapering of the tip. Pronounced but rounded guards, and a choice of pommels between rounded and pointed. Hand;e should be about 5".

I would buy it, maybe not at any price but I'd go far...

How about a resurrected BA III with an EU style handle, TAC style skullcrusher and burlap phenolic slabs textured like the Fusions.

15 inch blade, thin INFI, spear point, 4 or 5 inches of the back side sharpened, but with flat spine towards the center of the blade.

It's Sat morning! Hi Gang. This is going to be very interesting. Great idea Jerry.

second one would be a sabre Ash1 as someone already said but with a twist...

Take a cgAsh1 .32" and grind both sides so it would be approx. .27" thick and add a thumbrest so it'll get a "neck" such as an SFNO.

I think the SFNO appeals so much as a blade design is because the blade has a "neck" caused by the choil and thumbrest in the spine. So why not give the Ash1 a "neck"-treatment.

Here's how a sabregrind Ash1 looks like without the "neck" treatment.

THIS IS NOT PHOTOSHOPPED.....:eek::D:)

It was basically a smaller ABA-III.

I have asked about a knife like that ever since I set my cyber foot in the Busse forum four years ago; I have called it a Big-Game Warden, a Mini BA-III, a fully active duty etc etc.... doesn't make any difference I can't fool Jerry into making a new knife I'd actually use. :p

So I'll just keep flying out to see Skunk and buy his old ones

.

I would absolutely support this. As far as my wallet would allow.:)

EDIT: Just reviewed the "bidding," and I think Tony G has definitely hit on something with very strong demand ... and likely an affordable price. It's been described over half a dozen ways already, if you look closely. It's very close to a "sure thing."

[Of course, I'd still love a Busse Machete or Golok, but THIS KNIFE would sell like hotcakes in Canada on a January morning.]

how about creating a fully-enclosed micarta handle (so it's like resiprene c but in micarta)? you get the strength of micarta with the comfort of a fully-contoured, closed-tang handle (well, with an exposed butt).

or: even nuclear meltdown busses have a flat surface around the handle. you could experiment with "melting" that part of the knife to make it more comfortable.

Got it. Take the FLYING TIGER; put a 15" blade; instead of the clip point straighten the front end and make it a little wider with a somewhat upswept point; give it a more pronounced belly; serrations up front on the edge, right along the belly, where the chopping action will be (but not on the spine); convex edge; and, give it the nuclear meltdown treatment. Those serrations on a real heavy duty, nose heavy, chopper would definitively out perform EVERYTHING OUT THERE!!

I have thought a bit more about the suggestion of taking the 3B2 and keeping the same dimensions on the handle and spine thickness and blade depth but extending the blade to 8 inches and not 10.

8 inches allows for a slanted rear carry on webbing or on an inside the waist belt rear carry....which if you have to move fast wearing the knife...is far more stable and comfortable than other means of carrying it. A 3B2 Steel Heart:thumbup:

I think that with the same cammo job and black G10 handles would sell like hot cakes to the military....the only thing missing from my 3B2 is some extra chopping power and this would give it. Use the SAR 4 serrations on the spine for ferro rod striking so it can be done with the paint job in place and not having to use the blade or put a clip point on the knife....then it's batoning effectiveness is not hampered either. That would be a very cool knife.

Alternatively....you could go for the well known and long time asked for knives...

A) An Infi Ratmandu

B) An Infi Dumpster Mutt Combat Grade

C) An Infi Scandi Bushcrafter

Any of these will "walk out the door".

I would love to see an Airkat style framelock (TORK NVTR SKORPIN) in INFI.

Bro, I think every one of us ... nearly ... would love to see a Jerry Busse folder.

At this point, the details don't much matter. If Jerry liked it, so would we.

An INFI Axe would be bad a$$, especially double bladed, one side for cutting the other side made for splitting.

I think the best knife would be a combination of old and new design that inspires all of your fans to try out a different style that has the Busse interpretation added to it. I would like to see a Busse Nessmuk. It would be a great knife that could perform many roles and look tough at the same time.

Handle- The handle should be similar to that of the Fusion Battle Mistress(FBM). I think it should be between 5 and 5.5 inches long. I would like to see a nice curve at the butt-end of the handle. The handles should be Magnum black G-10 with a fat palm swell and thinner ends. The normal pins are fine, but I would like to see solid pins to fit the style of this knife a little better. It would be nice with a big butt, pommel, talon hole combo that drops at a good angle relative to the handle.

Blade- I would like to see a similar blade geometry to the Dan Koster Monster Nessie. I like an interpretation of a Nessmuk more similar to his than most of the others that are out there. One major difference I would like would be a slightly longer tip and still maintaining a nice Nessmuk style belly. I think the blade should be between 8 and 9 inches. It can be .22" thick, but if it can be thinner and still strong enough that would be nice. It should have a saber grind or flat grind.

The Nuclear Melted treatment should be applied to the whole knife. I would like the knife to be smooth like butta all over.

The Talon hole should have a larger than normal interior diameter. It will have to be tucked in close to the blade or handle to fit the design. Hard to show that without a drawing.

I am normally a satin finish fan, but in this case I would like to see a higher polish on the blade.

I would like to see a nice finger choil.

I would like to give it a name that is not so literally tough. I think I want to call it the "Crybaby". If that does not work how about "Butter Knife".

I think this nice would also leave the door open to create a small version to make a potential set. I would buy it.

I am ready to see this knife in production!

Thanks for the chance to participate,
Travis

Looking for something like this?

Here it is HOGs. . . . The "HOG Muk" featuring the new DCH handle . . . . . .. . .:D

This proto is very close to the final production piece. . .

anorexic assault shaker, satin, nuclear meltdown, FOUR FINGER handle, sub 3" blade.

Just thinking about it I make gutteral noises...and drool a little.

Use of the old school Rat style handle! Like the Rat Hunter, Swamp Rat SAR, Ratweiler...

Oh Yeah!!!!!! :)

You can put forth as many design ideas as you can come up with. . . .There are 4 teams that will be choosing ideas. . . .These ideas are open to Swamp Rat and Scrap Yard designs as well!!!!!

Jerry :D

.

Thanks Bossman, oh dear I see a lot of time being dedicated to this thread in the next few days.

My 2nd design would be a Busse Hissatsu or Bussatsu as i'm calling it. 9'' blade or so, with black paper rope pattern micarta on something like a SHBA handle. I reckon this would be a pure bred killer or double as a fillet knife.

larger cultellus
The cultellus is an awesome design, but I've avoided it because of it's choil, and because I was always happy with the rat tail. If the knife could be made without a choil, and made to be bigger that would be AWESOME. 1/8" thick, , with a shortened pommel. It would be one of the only truly compact knives of it's size in the busse range, with as much edge as possible in the 9" oal package, trying to avoid having extra length in the ricasso and pommel. it would also be the only slicer in that size, but still fairly strong at 1/8" thick.

rat tail type knife
going with the theme of "compact" in a given size, the rat tail is an excellent example of a knife that absolutely maximizes every last bit of area it has, wasting nothing, adding nothing that can be avoided. A larger version of this basic design would be AWESOME. The same type of straight backed blade with a slow sweep to the tip (keeping it acute), straight handle (micarta would be nice since it'll be larger and for heavier use), SHORT gaurd. I don't know if the talon hole will work here since the idea is to keep it as compact as possible, which the short gaurd of the rat tail acheives beautifully, but if there is one there can't be any wasted space in the ricasso.
-you could make one of these out of a thin nick (though you'd waste a lot of material from cutting down the blade)

shortened tank buster
make the edge 4.5" long, flatten out the back of the tac handle (to reduce the palm swell severity), and cut off the pommel. this is another "compact" idea, the tank busse is an awesome hard use design, but it's HUGE for edc in city. keeping it down to 4.5" and reducing the handle length would help make it more edc freindly while still keeping all the major design features/usability.

new axe
take the nmsfno, but make the blade into square axe pole, and at the end of it (where the tip of the nmsfno is) place a larger pauls hatchet type axe head (or the sh axe head, i just mean a basic style, nothing extreme like the crash rat or megaladon). The biggest issue with the 2 axes that have been produced so far (for me) is that the pauls hatchet was too light to do any heavy chopping, it was more efficient to use a fsh, and the swamp rat crash axe was far to heavy to use normally, with a pole that was akward given it's general shake and size. with that wide thick of a head like that you need a longer pole, but it can't be full metal unless you have a rubberized grip to reduce shock. The hardest part of doing anything like a nmsfno axe would be getting the balance of chopping power and weight correct.

and last but not least: the modified sar5
This is the knife that I had you guys custom make for me, but only very slightly tweaked. The only thing I did to this once it got to me from the custom shop was to cut off a half inch of the pommel and put new scales on it. the geometry of the edge and the shake of the handle is exactly what I asked for, just a touch bit shorter in the butt. This knife represents what I'm looking for in the above compact knives: it's 9.25" long with a 4.5" edge, no wasted space in the ricasso or pommel. it gives you the absolute maximum knife in the smallest format possible in the 9.25" size. I love it where it's at right now, but if I was able to do a full custom from scratch, I'd have the talon hole style gaurd (wich would be a little bigger, and full thickness instead of tapered because of the sar5 mod). otherwise - this design is exactly what I wanted, and something sorely missing from the busse line up.
a thinner version would also be awesome

if this picture is against the rules feel free to remove it. it's not a drawing or photoshop, it's profile and geometry is actually busse combat work, just with different scales and 1/2" shorter on the butt.
