The "blessed legume" is a wonderful little knife. The only smaller knife in the Case line is the "small toothpick".

Tiny toothpicks clock in at 3" long. Peanuts are right around 2 7/8". If my memory doesn't deceive me, the tiny trapper is even smaller.

Yes, tiny trappers are smaller, and I have an older model case pen that is considerably smaller than a nut. The tiny toothpick is a tough call, shorter but thinner than a nut probably less volume overall.

The #33 pattern? As soon as I posted I remembered that I had a yeller 3233 from the '70s in my bag which I stumbled across this morning out of the blue. IIRC the GEC #18 is the same length as the Case #20 peanut, so it does appear you are correct:

Unfortunately, it appears someone absconded with my ruler so I can't give exact measurements, but I'd estimate the #18 has about 1/8" on the Case pen.

But not all of the case pens, at least I don't think.

No, just the #33 in particular. Having it around this afternoon has been interesting. It may be the slimmest knife Case ever made and in my sausage fingers it is comically small with its single spring. Glad I ended up keeping it but it's probably not going to see an awful lot of carry time. :o

Well, I am a day overdue, but here is a one month update on my Chestnut Peanut! Every day for over a month, this has been my only EDC knife. There has not yet been a single time that I found the little legume lacking. Granted, if I go in the woods my Mora and my Opinel no.7 come along. Still, for all this time, I have carried a pair of spectacles to ease my astigmatism, a small Moleskine book, a pen, a 4-Way Craftsman, a glass cloth, my now well familiar Peanut, and a small coin from the Philippines made in 1995. (1995 has a personal significance. It's not my birth year, but it is pretty important)...

In case you're curios, the little nut isn't moving from its newfound home any time soon!

What an awesome report and a great pic too Ben! That Peanut is looking very much at home there. A trusty old pocket knife is one of the most practical tools you can own.

Washing mine ended up being a happy little accident - the shield fell out, I flipped it over, re-finished it to match the bolsters and re-glued it. I like the "plain" shield much better than Case's script on the old version! Here's my lil' legume, which has been a very regular pocket carry for about a year and a half~

That's a great idea! The same thing happened to me but I just glued the shield back as it originally sat. I think yours looks great without the script! Nice job!

I like that mod too. That is about my only complaint about Case, that on the shield the "Case over the xx" is pretty much unreadable, especially on the smaller knives like the peanut. You would think they would want the name of the product where you can read it. I much prefer the enclosed oval Case shield and wish they would just put that on all knives.

That's a very good set-up, Ben!:thumb up:

I'm thinking of a meeting with the current sitting Grand High Muckba and having the Sear's 4-way keychain screw driver being made a piece of required carry by Cult members. They are so handy for not just screws, but opening beers, cans of putty, scraping, and other light prying that may break a knife blade. And they fit with the Cult motto: "So much, from one so little."

Would the GE version fit the bill, Carl? :o

Don't forget the Victorinox faithful! Mine rides in my wallet - such a perfect Peanut companion! I have the Sears version too but the Victorinox opens the little battery compartments on my kid's toys because it has a bit more reach and a finer Phillips. I'm curious, Carl, how do you open beers with your 4-way? I haven't been able to open bottles with it, short of using it to slowly and methodically stick it up under the cap and twist to loosen it...

Thanks for the complements on the shield "mod"! I was able to soften the edges on it as well, so it's more comfortable in hand

I'd carry the Victorinox, but I never seem to be able to connect with one. I tried a coupe websites and they were either out of stock or not available for some reason. But I can get the Sear's all da y for .99 cents.

As for opening beers, I use it the same way as the SD tip on my classic, like you said going around and gently prying up the crown cap edges. The cap stuff is super soft material, and it opens fine in about 8 to ten seconds, or about 1/3 way around then just shove up with thumb. I've also used my Bic lighter, teaspoon, pipe tool, and belt buckle. It's so easy to pop open a cold one that I don't bother to carry a dedicated bottle opener anymore. One of the dubious benefits of paying for my son't college education was, the first semester he came home he showed me a half dozen ways to open a beer!

Made me soooo glad my money was being well spent!!!!!!:grumpy:

Ha! Yeah I learned all those tricks in College (plus 1 or 2 other things).... teeth, countertops, butterknives, etc etc.. Subsequently I have learned to open them with my wedding ring (which goes over extremely well with my wife. I usually carry a dedicated bottle opener for other people to use, and much like the 'nut, I want it to be as small and multi-functional as possible. People don't think it's cool when I bite the cap off their beer and hand them the bottle ;)

Still carrying and using the one you sent me Carl. Thanks again :D That one a little P-38.
