Simply beautiful, Paul.

Thanks Sarah, it seems to only be carried for special occasions;)

Paul...that's a good looking Peanut! Yup with a Barlow, nice edc!

Peter

Peter, it was all your doing. Yours inspired me to take this one outta the box:thumbup:

^Wow, yeah I didn't even get to this page before I posted. Man Paul that is a sexy nut you have there, I really love that old jigging!!

jwolf90, thank you, I like the jigging on this old peanut compared to the newer releases.

... IMO it's one of Case's most venerable patterns, in one of the most practical, aesthetically pleasing handle/steel combos of all time.

I wholeheartedly agree...

Wow Paul! Just now able to get on the forum and see these pictures of that beautiful old peanut. You and Peter certainly have lovely examples of a classic pocket knife.

Back in my hometown for a couple days. This afternoon I walked up to the hardware store where I bought my first pocket knives as a boy, to possibly pick one up for my son. Looking at the knives in the display case, and talking with a high school friend who now runs the store, I told him my son carries a yellow handled one like mine and pulled out my chestnut bone peanut.

He looked at it, said, "Peanut?"

He then reached in his pocket and produced a beautiful brown peanut and said, "I've been carrying this one for 34 years."

Members of the cult are everywhere!

Classic! He'd automatically quality for Lt. Muckba status and probably doesn't even know it.

BTW, guys, I'm on vacation in Berlin with the wife and kids and representin' with only a peanut in pocket. Tomorrow I'll carry it through Checkpoint Charlie and see if I can make it without getting shot.

Checkpoint Charlie!

"The light rain drifted in a mist and made halo's around the street lights as the man in the trench coat and fedora hat approached the checkpoint..."

I had that story in mind when I selected the 'nut for this trip, Carl!!!!!! Normally I might have taken a SAK, not wanting to risk losing the nut. But I thought I might need her if any Cold War-style espionage was called for. :-)

No peanut, I had a rough rider long enough to know that I love the pattern, then gave it to my dad. After reading this thread and many others, I think I might need to join the cult.

an updated pic of the peanut's not so pretty but tougher and more interesting cousin ;)

When I decided to give the 'nut another try (you people are a bad influence), I was just going to pick up an el-cheapo Rough Rider, but managed to talk myself into the heroically ugly brown delrin 'working' series peanut from Case instead. I expected it to feel twee and toylike next to the 309, but was quickly disabused of the notion. Somehow without any 'finish' to distract you, you have no choice but to note how good the 'fit' is. It feels like a little tank, without a gap or wobble to be found. (I'd say they did a better job on this than on my mini copperhead or my yeller pen, in fact.)

The palm-curve of the 309 fits almost perfectly in the thumb-curve of the peanut -- the cousins stand back to back against all comers!

Great photo, Mark!:thumbup::thumbup:

Though they may be from opposite sides of the tracks, cousins are still family. :)

Carl.

It is true, "you don't know what you've got till it's gone." Although I've got a few other great knives, mostly larger, I missed my little yeller peanut. Thanks to Paul I've got a peanut back in my pocket and doing what it does best; slice, look pretty, act as a worry stone, etc., etc. I'm still surprised I lost the last one, I don't really lose much. This one will not go by way of the last. Oh so shiny

Send me your mailing address - I've got a lightly-used chestnut/CV one that you're welcome to.

Wow JAB, that was cool of you.

Count me in. Love my Case redbone CV peanut. Not on me right now, had to make a break for the basement (stoopid tornadoes) and didn't have enough time to drop it in my pocket, and haven't gone up to get it yet.
I should. The twister's passed. Just need to go upstairs.

That's some love for the peanut there.

Here is a picture of mine, just because I hardly have time to take them. It's been in my pocket for at least a week now.

Ooh, I almost forgot to ask. Does it help to sit here and deploy the blades to get it break in?

i have a lighter color amber bone handle, and was wondering for those that have the lighter color handles, do you find your handle getting a little darker over time?
I'm kind of hoping mine does.

Just printed my fishing license, pulled my fishing gear together, so I decided to give my fishing companion a little spa treatment before our first trip, the stone, the leather shined up the brass. & bolsters, a little mineral oil, now my peanut is ready for some action ( I hope ).
