A whole family shot.

With the addition of Will's Queen gift, I now have these five peanut style knives.

What is the one on the far right? That is beautiful!

Just stopping in to say hi. I just received my first Peanut a couple of days ago. It is my next to ideal knife, and I am excited to have it. It's giving my 7 year EDC Texas jack a break at the moment.

P.S. Haha, Pandora just started playing Carl Orff's Carmina Burana in the background as I posted this, one of my favorites.

I just got my first Peanut. It was my grandfather's. He passed away back in September. My grandmother just finished going through all of his things and she sent me a couple of his old pocket knives, the Peanut and a medium Stockman. Really cool to have these. I was raised by my grandparents, so you can imagine how close we are/were.

I think I'm going to send the Peanut in to Case because when the blades are extended, the back side of the handle (backspring?) is raised and not flush with the rest of the handle. I'll post pics of them.

I can tell that this won't be my last Peanut!

I took a few pictures of the appaloosa bone peanut after orange slicing duty this morning to show the developing patina. When I tried this different angle I discovered it showed pocket lint better than patina, but I uploaded it anyhow because it does show off the appaloosa bone.

Wonderful Peanut, Doug!! I really love (!!!) that nice bone...

Thanks Andi. It may be ordinary, but I think the chestnut bone is one beautiful peanut! Love the patina on yours, too.

That's a pretty good lookiing 'nut for being ordinary. Chestnut bone is always a good choice.

I'm sorry about your grandfather, Andi. Maybe someday you'll meet up again.

Carl.

Yes, the bone on mine is not bad, indeed :p It´s really nice looking and I used it pretty much for almost everything ... I just sharpened it and now it looks nice... the almost patinaed edge is now shiny again.

Thanks for your condolences, Carl. I hope to see him again in many many years. Thanks for the kind words about the Peanut :)

Does anyone have details on the Damascus blade Peanut? What steel is the blade? Where to get one? I've seen a couple of these now and I really want one!

I love my grandfather's old Peanut, but I'd be sick if I lost it so I'm looking to add a new one. If I can't find a Damascus, I'll go for CV.

EDIT: I just read that Devin Thomas supplied Case with the Damascus, so I'm assuming that it's stainless?

This goes back a few years to April, 2008. Thanks to Blues (Elliott) for posting it.

"Carbon.

See my correspondence (below) with Rob Thomas:

Elliott, yes the raindrop that we have provided for Case the last 3 years is a carbon steel. It is 1075/nickel mix. 1075 is a spring steel. The nickel content is only to add color to the blade and is about 5% of the total weight. Case has decided to use this because it is easy to blank and the cost is reasonable. Devin and I will be upgrading our carbon steel for 2009 to 19C5va. It is a carbon steel made specifically for cutlery, it has vanadium in it which will be a better blade steel. Thanks, Rob Thomas "

Whether it's changed our not I can't say

OK, the Peanut has finally caught my attention and I gotta have one.
Love the Case CV in Chestnut bone.
Is Case the only company currently making a Peanut knife?
Sorry if this is a dumb question.
Lenny

Lenny - no dumb question at all. I´ve already seen some RoughRiders Peanuts. The GEC #06 Pemberton is in the same size range. Though a pretty different frame. Coke bottle at GEC and a Dogleg Jack frame on the Case.

There are also some vintage knives in the Peanut frame made by Schrade, Ulster, etc etc

Thanks for the info! I'm familiar with CV and how it will patina over time. Does non-stainless Damascus patina also? Anyone that has carried and used their Damascus Peanut have any feedback?

I just took this a few minutes ago. I have carried this peanut for a couple of years now, and it has changed a little. The bright part has faded a little and the overall damascus pattern has become a bit muted into a gray. So it has patined, but in a muted kind of way.

Thanks Humppa.
I do wish GEC would make a Dog Leg Jack framed Peanut though.
Time to look for a Case at a good price.
Keep posting pix everybody.
