Cult of the peanut , members

Here's my one and only Peanut. Dad gave it to me years ago and it's been sitting in it's package in my knife box until only recently. I think I'll have to start carrying it around a bit.

I have one that was my grandfather's that looks just like your's. I think it looks great!

Im a fixed blade guy, but I can see the usefulness of this, Id really like to try one out now. Small enough to join my main knife and do small work.

I have a new member to the family

That's a well seasoned old pocket veteran. Looks like the former owner used that pen blade quite a bit. One can only wonder where it's been in it's travels, and if more than one owner used it well. Nice knife, Pete.

Carl.

Thanks Carl, the previous owner definitely used and maintained the edge, if it wasn't for the surface rust I probably wouldn't have had to touch the edge, after cleaning and a few passes on a stone it was as good as new, I like how the pen blade is more like a sheepsfoot.

Bolsters are nice and heavy, and the knife itself is heavier than both my Case peanuts.

Thanks Pete.

Yes, it was the barlow's pen blade I had reprofiled to a sheepsfoot.

If I recall correctly, the Camillus 22 pony jack I used to have was listed as having maize delrin handles.

blacksheep: i really admire your peanut, i love that as ground blade...
stitch: i love your damascus peanut, really dig that upsweep near the tip..
heres some of mine

Hi, i had been carrying my redbone cv Peanut until my Queen mini toothpick arrived i carried that as it was new but the pull of the Peanut was to strong,so the redbone leapt back into my fob pocket,i have just taken delivery of a chestnut bone cv nut, what a little beauty, this brings my nut total to three,an amber bone ss,the redbone cv and the chestnut cv. I used to carry larger knives until i realised i do not really need one in my settled urban life now that i am retired, the peanut copes with most tasks and should i need a larger blade i have a few to choose from, mostly GECs. I am awaiting delivery of a Pemberton i had not been to sure about them until seeing the excellent pictures posted by bdev and pertinux. I hope this qualifies me for admittance to the Cult of the Peanut...

Don't want this one to sink too far down..!

I just got a Damascus Peanut for Father's Day! It's gorgeous, I'll post some pics soon. My wife even called and asked them to pick out the best looking one with the best fit and finish, and they did because it is perfect. I'm a lucky guy!

Just ordered my very first nut today! About time I know, it will have the wonderful case cv and hopefully some goodlooking chesnut bone. Really anxiously awaiting its arrival!

This does indeed get you into the cult. With three 'nuts to your credit, you right to the second council!
:D

I know what your talking about as far as being retired and needing less knife. When I retired, And I finally had that time to sit back and take stock of things, my appreciation of all things smaller grew. Or maybe that walk to the old fishing hole seemed longer than in my youth, and I just didn't want to carry more than I needed. :D

Welcome to the cult.

Carl, Grand High Muckba.

I hope your damascus peanut serves you as well as mine did. This was the very first damascus blade I ever had, and is still the only one I own. It took me a while to get used to the damascus, it's weird stuff, and not like CV or any of the other steels I was used to. Sometimes it felt dull, but when I went to cut, it sliced right through what I was cutting. It felt weird on the stone, but sharpened up well. It's not weird in a bad way, just different from anything I had before. I'm still wondering if it was made by Devon Thomas or his brother.

Carl, Grand high Muckba and user of Case damascus peanut.

Hi Folks,
As you can see I'm new here though have been lurking for months.
Yes, have had a SAK Classic on my key chains for 40 years or so. And, have always had a Case and Buck knife around though never paid any attention to the models and such. Also, recently found three thirty-plus years old Peanut-sized Schrades.
Anyway, a couple of years ago started buying SAK....ending with buying several Alox models.
Learned about the GEC issue JBF...and, that started a sort of knife buying frenzy, I guess you could say. Ain't saying how many GEC knives I've bought over the past couple of months.
I read this thread from beginning to end a month or so ago and now have a Peanut yellow CV.
I'm attempting to try whittling again. I'm working on whittling the "small guys" with little success, though am continuing on with it. I have a Carvin' Jack but am using pocket knives.
BTW, do any of you folks ever use your Peanuts for whittling?
As I'm no longer working I'm not out and about that much, though have decided that I'm going to start carrying my Peanut...and, my pup and I just split a Granny Smith that my Peanut cut for us.
After rereading some of the posts again, I just ordered an orange Peanut with the bail (along with a Lansky 4-rod system).
Well, just wanted to say, hi.
Regards,
George

Hi George - I'm with ya - I do a lot of whittling with my Peanut.
The small handle doesn't bother me at all, and I really like the Peanut's pen blade.
All around great choice!
