Custom Slipjoints

Bastid's Buick LaSabre. (I apologize for the lack of knife content but I figured the folks would like to see Bastid's ride.)

Thanks for sharing that Rob. It's nice to see the ol' home Bastidome in the background too.;)

You should see Blues and Gig's jowls a flappin' and the grip they have on the doors when we cruise around Bastidville at Blade. (I drive a little quick, but you have to do that or die in Bastidville.)

It is a sight to behold. Knives being club fingered and tossed back and forth... dog tired goats passed out across the hood, trunk lid and part of the back seat ...

Don't be Shaldag,

I was hoping to get a consultation at Blade regarding a cure for this disease.

Seriously all awe goes to the makers of these knives we enjoy. All I do is try to make a little room in my life for the knives.

Since I have been able to get close to some of them, the knives are secondary. Folks like Bailey, Ron, Joel (his wife), Richard Rogers (and his wife Sally), Bill, Johnny Stout whose friendships mean more to me than any knife are much more awesome.

Many of those knives were made with me in mind and I was just given a chance at them. When Richard made that carved pearl Dr. Knife for me his wife Sally made a small cloth lined wooden case for it. Last year before Blade Richard made the coolest capped bolster serpentine Dr. knife in black lip. It was something he wanted to try (maybe I prodded him a little). These knives made by friends have in a way become part of me. I use quite a few of them. One by Tony, a couple of Richard's and Joel's, one of Todd's, Bailey's or one by Tony Huffman sit in my "edc" drawer along with some more vintage stuff I enjoy using as well as the two forum knives. I don't have the intention of selling them so why not use and enjoy them. I figure that is what they were made for anyway.

It is kind of silly, but I enjoy starting the day and picking one of them out and sticking it in my pocket. Sometimes you naturally take some time to think about the efforts of someone you know or the "history" behind the actual knife. Not a bad way to start a day.

I understand, Gus.

Well, all except that part about picking one.

I can't do it. That's why, although I read the "minimalist" thread, I have no desire to participate in such an experiment.

I just added the little swayback to my small but expanding Ohta collection. I have trouble deciding which one to pocket in the morning!

I just got this one in from Ken Erickson a few days ago, and I have to say I'm truly impressed with Ken's scaled down Sowbelly. This knife has fabulous fit and finish, perfect spring tension, great blade grinds and centering, relieved liners. The backspring is flush in all three positions too. IN short, everything you could ask for:thumbup: Ken's attention to detail really shows in the little things like the polished interior of the knife and intricate inlay of the shield to name a couple of things. The ATS-34 blade has just the right shape and size to fit my EDC needs. Plenty stout, too.

I got on Ken's list a while back with a request for a scaled down trapper. I was looking at a closed length of 3 1/4". As the time got closer, I asked Ken if he could think of anything else that he could scale down to somewhere closer to the 3" to 3 1/8" mark. Ken suggested the Sowbelly Pattern, even though I'd like to tell you it was my idea:D I had always been a Sowbelly fan, but I have to admit I never thought about having that pattern scaled down--I'm glad Ken did because this knife truly surpasses my expectations in every way. Take a look at it, plus some other Custom Slipjoints that measure 3 1/8" closed for comparison purposes.

Show us your smaller custom slipjoints while you're checking this one out too, please:thumbup:
