Cutlery Proposals for the Bladeforums 2015 Knife

Not too hot on either of these. Gunstock, sleeveboard or sodbuster were my hopes.
And I was hoping for a small fixed blade, but I think I might be happy with the Canal Street offering.
I think the best thing to do now would be to put up a poll with the G.E.C. and Canal Street offerings with a provision in the poll for other.
This would give us a better idea of where we stand at the moment. ;)

I like the CS knife (revised shadow with lowered main, new shield) just fine. The length is not a problem for me at 4" in a slim, light knife like this.

I thought a sleeveboard pattern was discussed early on and I was excited with the prospect, but it seems that we're off in a different direction now unless Queen or Case comes up with one.

I'm hoping Case comes with a killer proposal.

The thread "never too early" Is Not an official thread regarding the next forum knife, just a discussion.

Best regards

I don't know what it means to be an official thread or unofficial thread. I do know that I'm disappointed that GEC proposed a less desirable version of the CSC prototype. I would have strongly preferred to have a few different knives to choose from instead of multiple versions of very similar knives. I'm really hoping that Case comes back with something other than a 4" serpentine two blade single spring knife. That being said, I'd be very happy with the CSC, which at this point seems to be where all of this is heading anyways.

I'm always amazed at how picky people can be about the forum knife.

Seriously?

Whats wrong with folks stating preferences?

Of course not everyone is going to want the same thing.

Everyone wants the forum knife to be unique and special

I think it's more just folks, given a raw pallet, expressing their vision of a custom knife they would like to own. I like it. You see just how diverse their ideas are and why there are so many different patterns already out there. And, we might end up with an exclusive design. What's wrong with that?

I figure that it is the forum knife, I'll get it no matter what it is. I guess I just get taken aback by the negative comments.

I think I'm in the majority here. Both are nice knives and I would get at least one of either as the forum knife. That said, I still like the CSC better. Looks like it would carry better and just looks more interesting. Not knocking the GEC, it's a stately good looking knife, if they go up for sale outside of the forum I might pick one up, it's a nice knife. But the CSC offering just looks more unique and interesting to me. I'm also looking forward to seeing what Case has to show us, but I'd sign off on the CSC now without a problem.

To throw my opinion into the mix on some of the other points, I'd prefer carbon steel myself but CS's stainless is good stuff, wouldn't cause me any hesitation at all. And while I love a good jigged bone I don't think that's the best bet on a shadow, I'm good with a nice figured wood, preferably a burl or something as opposed to just wood but they have put out some nice looking wood scales so I'm sure whatever we end up with will be great. I will throw another vote at micarta though, something with more pattern to it than the white on the last micarta, maybe a linen or canvas, I have a thing for natural canvas but there are alot of great colors that could still fit on it as a traditional. Maybe something in a natural color but a finer linen instead of the fairly course canvas. But we could also see what they can do for us in a maroon, or a black that still shows the weave of the fabric. Just my .02

You can just pretty much say exactly the same for me, even the spelling of the name. The only differences are, I prefer stainless to carbon, but neither is a deal breaker. And I would strongly prefer natural or maroon micarta to black (if micarta were chosen).

It isn't the forum knife YET Josh, and unless posters comment on the various proposals and what they'd like to see, it won't be a FORUM knife

I like the looks of the shadow knife, since it is more "traditional" looking than the other offerings. That said, my opinion is irrelevant, since I cannot afford to buy one, no matter what is decided on.

I was going to be surprised if Case actually submitted anything at all to be honest. They are a huge corporation & will never be able to put their heart into this years forum knife like Eric & CSC can. The CSC entry was put together by a contributing member of this forum which for me personally makes it that much more special. :)

Jake I tend to agree, would be very surprised if CASE bothered at all. Mind you, if they did and did it right it would certainly send out a message to GEC et al.

The CS proposal is a clever re-working of one of their existing frames, uses many features we have not yet had on a Forum Knife: shadow, single-spring, STAINLESS Would look very fine in interesting wood or canvas micarta. Whilst its length is rather long for pocket carry, this is unavoidable as CS don't have a smaller Stockman frame and making one would raise costs a lot, keeping it shadow does cut down on weight and makes pocket carry more feasible.

I'd love a 3.5" Sleeveboard but nobody has offered anything like it. The CS looks more interesting than the current GEC float, frankly, if CASE have not offered any proposal by 1st June I reckon we should start the vote for CS v GEC.

Thanks, Will

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm leaning toward stainless. That's if we end up going with the Canal Street. It's something new for the forum knives, and I think it would look good to match the large pivots.

In other words, what Will said. ^^^

Any news from Case?

The reason I am asking, is so we can politely review their offer
Case will have to have a very strong proposal since the very strong preference expessed here seems to already be for the Canal Street knife
