David Beck W.S.K. vs. TOPs "TRACKER" round #1

I have to stop reading this thread...

It's making my wallet nervous...

This thread makes me want to grab all my knives and go live in the nearby park for a week. I might be able to catch some crackheads with a figure 4 trap. :)

Yeah really, me too! (They say crackhead tastes like chicken:))

I wonder what alternate scenes this knife might be missing from in The Hunted. The interviews with Tom Brown and other people talk as though the Tracker is the star of the film but if you have seen the movie you have already noticed it is not in as many scenes as some people make it out to be. Could this be plain old marketing hype or possibly because this movie was shelved for a while and looks as though it has suffered a lot of re-editing. There could be more scenes with the Tracker that were shot but edited out. Maybe a special edition DVD will tell all. Non the less I still can't wait until my Beck arrives so I can take it out in the bush.

The DVD comes out in August, and I am really looking forward to it. I'm hoping there is tons of extras on the knife and survival aspects of the movie. Like the Castaway DVD had a bunch of stuff on the survival training for the film.

My Wilderness Survival Knife (#564) showed up a few days ago, and WOW!
This thing is just incredible. Built like a tank and the most comfortable handle I've ever felt. I took it out Monday and built a figure 4 deadfall trap. This knife carved like no other knife I've ever used. The draw knife section really cuts like a chisel. I was able to cut nice clean square shoulders in the wood I was working with. The rounded spine is the perfect pivot for your thumb while carving. My hands never cramped up, and I found myself not needing my smaller knife to do any of the tasks required to build the deadfall.

This is a purpose driven tool, not a fad. Every part of this knife has a purpose, looking great is mearly a side effect.

The sheath is great as well, I asked for a utility pocket on the sheath that was too large to be sewn on, so Dave engineered this pouch that's removeable!

All in all, this knife and sheath were worth every penny. Dave Beck's a great guy and makes a fine knife.

P.S. The sawteeth actually cut like a saw too.

Well my WSK just got here, fit and finish is great. I love the grip and balance! Sheath fit is also excellent. I will write more when I get to put it too use.

Ya lucky dogs! I still hope to get one soon. I tried trading Vm outta his, but to no avail! :D

You know even before I got my knife the one thing over all other factors in my mind that gives the Beck the edge is the hook. The hook is like the main feature in having two blades. If there was no hook it could just be shaped like a machete or smatchet and the tiny hook on the TOPS seems to not be enough for crafting with. The Rambo type sawback is nice on the TOPS if you plan on cutting wire fence etc. I know I have used this feature when I was little on the $20 survival knifes. Well as soon as my SAS survival book gets here (hopefully tomorrow) I will make a figure four with it and some other things I can think up.

Tools and Weapons:

It's been a while since I have posted on this thread. Beck #560 is still going strong. Over the last couple months I have had the chance to use the Beck WSK to build several items. First being a throwing/rabbit stick. With the right shape young ash tree to begin with it was a very easy task. It was a matter of simply cutting an 18 inch section out of the small tree and removing materiel to thin it out and give it the semi-blade like shape. The final shaping was done with the draw knife portion of the WSK.

Next was a bow with several arrows. These pieces did take a while longer but are very effective if used properly. The arrows took the longest, scraping, carving and shaping the round arrow shafts was made easy by utilizing the hook portion of the Beck blade. What an awesome tool. As some of you know I have been through MANY knives, the Beck is my absolute favorite. I can't get enough of it.

I am sorry TKnife, I just couldn't part with it.

Sounds like such an unbeleivable tool, I can see why I couldn't trade you out of it! ;) I had about three customs on order that are all just about finished, so once those are paid, I have my sites set on the WSK.

Gee, thanks! :p How do you decide between the Beck and those cool Crains you have? That's why I like car camping, I can bring all my new steel without breaking my back!

I've been looking to get one of these for a while. I think I am going to place an order for one.

PlaceKnives, is that the olive/black micarta?

Every time I see this post and pics I say that I NEED to have it.
I'll just cut down on my Mac and cheese from one a day to every other day :)
Gotta have this.
What's the lead time from order to ship?
Any idea now?
A beauty of a piece :)
Tom

Tom,
Dave's lead time was 6 weeks on the Wilderness SUrvival Knife, he may very well be up to 2 months or so now.
