Did your Traditional knife get a workout today? -Part II

I give my thanks to Jacknife and Quatromori that introduced me to these kinds of knives. Those people that originated this shape really knew their trade.

Yes, the Aitor Castor that ScruffUK gave me has a similiar blade-shape. Looked a little odd to me at first, but I'm finding it pretty useful :)

Colonial Ranger Lg. jack. Prep for beans.

One Opinel got a modification today so I guess that I got the workout. I decided to polish the blade on my Opinel #8 Olive Wood handle knife. The Opinel slim Olive Wood knives have mirror polished blades from the factory so I decided to dress up my #8 standard Olive Wood the same way. Looks pretty good so far but still needs some additional work to bring it up to the same polish level as the factory mirror polish.

I have also blued the blades of a couple of carbon steel Opinels. Gives them a different look than the factory finish. I will probably try polishing the next carbon steel blade I do before bluing it.

I used my knife for the usual tasks in the bakery today such as slicing open 50lb sacks of flour and sugar, opening boxes of frozen fruit, and cutting out the batch numbers from the yeast cases.

My most enjoyable task was making myself a snack after work. It's hard to beat some venison summer sausage. Here's a pic I prepared earlier.;) The knife and the uncut portion from the picture were present, though.:D

Like that comment almost as much as the gorgeous picture!

The sausage looks delicious. Some horseradish mustard, a bit of mild cheese and some multi-grain crackers is all I would need for a proper meal.

It definitely is! We've been taking our meat to the same processor for many years and they make just about anything you could want. Everything I've ever tried has been very good. As much as I like the sausage, they make some cheddar and jalapeno bologna that is fantastic.

Nothing food related for once: My Outlaw helped building a Guitar Hero controller :). Lots of tape to cut, wires to strip, epoxy to remove, keyboard to destroy etc.
(Just ignore the mess ;))

Used the pen blade of my oldest 6292 to open a package containing my new Bulldog copperhead (thanks again klineh!)

Not the ones I'm carrying but I had to break out my red alox Pioneer as I had need for the can opener... The "old" new can opener just doesn't work well on the little tomato paste cans.

I love my wife's hair. It's long, beautiful, and soft. But she sheds like a labrador. Her hairs get everywhere and the vacuum picks it up. I spent ten minutes this morning cutting bunches of the stuff out of the vacuum's spindle.

This was the knife I used.

It worked well enough, but I think a hawkbill would've done better. Maybe I'll pick up one of the Queen/Joe Par due collaborations.

There's no stopping you now. :)

Thanks pertinux!
My people are currently in talks with a potential protege - we'll see how it goes  :D

Edit: kidding aside, I should add - for anyone thinking of trying this, I was really surprised at how simple this was to learn :)

And, once properly done (as you have), how easy it is to maintain. I'm always perplexed when I hear that someone doesn't like convex edges because, "they're hard to sharpen and/or require lots of special equipment."

Well done!

Thanks Smithhammer!
I'm pleasantly surprised about the ease of maintaining a convex - couple swipes on a loaded strop and it's shaving sharp again
