Did your Traditional knife get a workout today? -Part II

Here's one I've been carrying around with me for a while. The little sleeveboard is a surprisingly comfortable whittler. In the picture also are some Rough Rider woodcarving tools I decided to give a try. Set of 12 tools for $8.99, so not a bad deal.

Rachel, very cool lizard/salmander/chameleon you carved there!:cool:
What's the little knife pictured? I don't know many GEC pattern numbers; it reminds me of a 25 but in a penknife configuration.
I've looked at the RR carving set, but I have no experience with carving tools. Do you find yourself paralyzed with indecision over which of TWELVE tools to use for a particular cut??:D

Thanks.
It's a # 26 pattern. I don't have a 25, but I'll bet someone has a picture of the two together.

As far as having 12 tools to choose from, it's just the opposite. They came with no edge, and I haven't gotten around to sharpening more than the two you see in the picture. I see maybe two more that look useful, but still feel I got my money's worth.

 Jordan, it is handy; but use a .99 cent paint can opener for that job! I'd hate for you to get blade play on that gem!

No biggie. I held the opener by the blade so the joint didn't see any of the torque. It's not a crowbar, but it is a tool :)

I'd have no hesitation using my Radio Jack for a job like that

Thanks for answering my questions, Rachel. My questions are often silly, I suppose, but they're sincere! :D:D

Not silly at all!

I have found that most "starter kits" include a few tools that nobody will buy individually. Better to be silly than cynical.

Here is my most recent acquisition, just before we spent a day in the garden, planting fruit trees, tomatoes, and other good stuff. The 15 got dirtied up and has started on a nice patina after a day in the garden, so now I'll have to snap some "after" photos.

Here's the Pioneer helping me monitor and aid the local bluebird population.

I check the nests and make sure they're free of mold and parasites. Meanwhile my beautiful assistant records the data, which eventually makes it's way to Cornell's ornithology department.

Very cool, Dr. M; I love to see SAKs earning their keep!:cool:

I don't have any photos, but I was helping with a math workshop for local elementary school teachers today, and as I circulated around the room as they worked on a fraction activity, I encouraged one of the young women to wake up and have fun. She said she had a caffeine headache and couldn't get her bottle of Coke open. I couldn't open it either; the little plastic ring on the bottle neck holding the cap on seemed to be missing the perforations that you usually break by twisting. So I deployed my Case Swayback Jack and soon had freed the cap from the ring. But I still couldn't twist it off! :( I ended up slicing a wedge out of the cap to get it off. We compared the cap to other "normal" bottle caps and found that her cap was threaded differently than the normal ones. Anyway, it was good to have the swayback jack there to solve the problem. :p

My favorite crawfish boil knife had a bit of a workout opening beers today

Slightly off topic, but man, they're big-'uns this season!

I hauled this out for my brother to carve his birthday beef roast. Can you read the guarantee? Return it with 50 cents coin to cover postage and handling. It was about 20 years ago that the lady in the factory store told us someone had just found a barrel of these in a corner of the factory.

Thanks, Jack. This seems to be shaping up to be a very festive weekend.
Hope you are having a grand time as well.

I had a very nice weekend r8shell, thanks, out for a hike on Saturday, and a meal in a nice pub with friends on Sunday :)

Thanks Jack, it really is a pleasure.

I have friends who do a similar job, sometimes in some very remote locations, and they get a great deal out of it :)
