down2man (George Huang)

Well I guess this answers all 2nd set of questions.

I will screen shot all the emails later when I get home to put an end to any doubt anyone might have.

Dylan, I may have not READ the entire thread in detail, but hell u shipped USPS EXPRESS which is the best you can ship and I was told USPS EXPRESS was suppose to always provide proof of delievery... I always ship this way international and its always a HIT OR MISS with getting a signature!!

USPS OFFICE told me EXPRESS mmail is the only USPS international service that provides proof of delievery! I am little slow sometimes, so I am assuming USPS felt they did their job cause it got to customs and PAYPAL felt that since George did not sign he should get his money back!!

Am I correct to think that?

That is more than a coincidence unless he can explain ?.

Chris Reeve Umnumzaan

Near mint condition, does have few very light fainting scuffs on the handle, blade is like new. Perfect lockup and centering.

Comes complete with box and all the paperwork

Maybe the buyer ( dails28 ) could scan or photograph the birthday-card. Ought to be easy to compare the scan with Dylans pic. If they match.......

Reading all these issues makes me uneasy, I really feel for the OP and I hope that the Umnumzaan sold by down2man was not the knife in question.

Down2man has shown his true colours, he is willing to go against his word over this deal and file a PP claim, clearly dishonest. It would be fair to assume he is dishonest enough to have stolen the Umnumzaan and flicked it off on Aussie Blade forums recently given the timing.

It takes just one or two idiots to ruin it for all of us international buyers.

Thankfully I've not had any issues with folders coming through New Zealand customs, from a Spyderco Military to an XM-18 3.5.

I hope this has a happy ending.

Jay.

Perhaps some Australian members might advise the OP on how to pursue criminal charges? Until a few people get some serious legal trouble, this kind of lying/fraud thing will remain a viable option for the morally impaired knife-buyer/trader. Mail fraud charges might make some people think twice before pulling such a scummy stunt.

I just made a account on Australian Blade Forums and sent dails28 a message asking if he could snap a quick picture of the birth certificate. Now we wait...

Please keep in mind that you pay for the service. USPS itself does not deliver outside the US. Australia's post office does that, if they get the item from Customs. If they do not, it is your problem for sending contraband.

wow this thread got interesting.

Just a thought but, what if along with the knife you sent something else, anything else, like a deck of cards, would customs then deliver the non contraband part of the order and would that provide enough proof of a delivery to satisfy paypal?

You may want to contact the site administrator to see if there is anything they can do to help you.

If they did It would satisfy the "item not received" claim.

The buyer could then claim "Item not as described" and PayPal would simply require the buyer to return the item (in this case a deck of cards) and once proof of that had been established PayPal would refund the buyer by taking the money from the seller.

There are countless ways for a thief to beat you after paying you with PayPal, and they try new ones every day. Luckily, on the whole, there aren't that many out there, and most are not smart enough to do it right.

If you stick to dealing with people with a track record, and make sure you follow through on your end you should be fine.

I have a lock on the door of my shed. It's not there to stop a thief, it's there to keep an honest man from making a mistake.
What I mean is if someone is determined to screw you they probably will, but most theft is simply a crime of opportunity. Just don't make it too easy by failing your own responsibilities and you will avoid most situations like this one.

Before jumping the gun, definately need to hear back from the member on ABF, this will then without a doubt prove yes or no on delivery.

(also down2man could show his for sale images that he used if he still has them from imageshack ?)

@ PRY,

that is correct, if a parcel is inspected and items removed, the remaining item in parcel is forwarded on with a note inside stating items have been removed, then you wait on the letter.

Watching this with interest Dylan considering we are a small group here in Australia, i hope that everything is clarified soon.

Well George has been on the Australian Forum tonight so I can only assume he has also read this. Not sure how best to proceed in a way that may help not hinder here. I pride myself on being a man of my word and on more than one occasion I have accepted responsibility for a package just as soon as I am provided with an active USPS customs or tracking number. I can't ever see a circumstance where I would not abide by this as my reputation alone is worth more to me than any blade I may purchase. Issues like this not only hurt those involved directly in the transaction but also those us based outside the US that require the goodwill to get knives here. I also know my local laws inside and out, I just don't understand someone trying to "run the gauntlet" that is Aus Customs and FOLDING knives just now.

it still doesn't seem like the best solution but at least if you do go that route then all the buyer could do is say "item wasnt as described" or something like that and it would become his word against yours, so your chances of paypal helping you out might be a little better. Me personally, I just wouldn't ship to AUS after reading this post.

I think George needs to step up and explain why he didn't do what he said he would do, he obviously knows about this thread by now and should be banned if he really did lie to the OP about accepting responsibility.
