I don't think it takes any physical experience with a knife to judge the character of its maker. I also have no "physical" experience with Striders...because I would not buy one regardless of the build quality. Strider's actions are a deal breaker. I don't care if he is making "Sebenza quality."

Agreed.

Why in the hell do you keep opening your mouth when you have no physical experience with Mcburger knives and your knowledge is only based on what you've read. I mean I'm with you in not liking them but my god, just shut the hell up.

There are many in the community that take stolen valor very seriously and shiny is one of them. Leaving the moral issues out of it for a second the stolen valor laws were created just for people like him fortunately for him the outrage over his sins had diminished before the laws had been finalized. I'm like shiny in the sense that Striders could be the most perfect knife out there and I wouldn't buy one because of the man it's they way some of us are for better or worse. We all value different things because we're all different and the internet allows us to express those things and in an ideal world make choices based on both the positive and negative.

Why would shiny reply to a thread asking about Strider knives (just the knives) if he has no experience with them?

Sounds like he just wants to stir the pot like a troll. Other than bashing Mick I think any of your opinions are irrelevant to the topic asked by the OP.

Btw the newer knives don't have lock rock and all these other issues you keep referring to. Some people actually like the knives regardless of what Mick did in his youth. Get over it man. I don't agree with Mick's actions, but he has grown. People change.

Slow to catch on, huh? Read it over again, it might dawn on you eventually.

Did you miss spark (owner of bladeforums) post and thread on Mick burger?

What the hell are you talking about? Lol

Get a grip, and read before posting.

I don't know what you "highly" doubt lol facts are facts.
I did read... I've read alot actually. In point of fact, I wasn't there for half of the allegations personally nor were you. I agree to disagree with you that regardless one mans opinion or feelings could be 100% accurate when the United States government has HUNDREDS of companies dying for contracts and yet Mick was issued an NSN#. I suppose the founder of Ontario knives received an NSN off ebay as well....

This whole "aww man, my favorite knife maker is being called a scumbag, ( he is) let's rush to his defense" is pathetic.

Yea, we know you like the knives, doesn't change he founded his business on lies pretending to be an operator in Somalia.

How or why would you defend that? Because he makes your favorite knife? Wow.

Well, I guess you are emotionally attached to your striders to the point you must defend it's scumbag maker no matter what he did

In the end, if I liked a knife and it turns out the owner is a scum bucket, I won't defend him at all costs. Just makes you look foolish.
If/when I'm laid up in the hospital and my medical equipment is made in Germany, or China, or Uzbekistan I don't stand up and rip out my IV's and scream MERICA...
If you're going to ask people to exercise common sense perhaps expand your mind enough to realize if Mick were on fire, writhing in agony, flames propagating on his forehead... but a piece of candy were also to the left of him lying deliciously unsuspecting I may grab the candy first... It's the knife I care about perhaps, not the man. NOW if his hobby was fondling children and then burning their skin to make a cool anodized pattern on the knife maybe we have a different conversation yea?

Actually, if I was that intent on not giving up the knife, I would acknowledge the maker is a wanker and say I DON'T CARE what he did, I like the knife.

Just come out and say you don't care what he did, rather than make excuses and defend him.. jeesh.
Nobody that I've seen in this thread truly made excuses for him.. they simply didn't blindly follow someone else's experiences or opinions and adopt them as their own.

I truly believe that Spark himself was the very epitome of someone who was, originally, 'just interested in the knives, thankyouverymuch' position on the Strider Knives vs Mick Burger argument. Spark allowed Strider a space on this very Forum because of the knives, not the man behind them. And what happened there? Mick took a giant curl on Kevin and let his deluded arrogance run rampant--the man became more important than the knives. Well, shots fired, and Spark shot back and utterly destroyed Mick's bullshine with EVIDENCE.

If Mick has ever apologised to Kevin, I have never heard of it. This is the very least of what he is owing to the knife community at large before I would even consider supporting Strider Knives.

YMMV

You're alright by me. We can agree on some points and disagree on others. All good man.

If you are embellishing at least you had at least a partial experience so there's at least a kernel there, if you create whole cloth there is no grounding.

OK, I can see that but, when it comes to stolen valor, some people would consider them pretty much the same.

Because the end result is the same you didn't do what you said and have taken something away from those who have..

I failed Ranger school twice I'd be very wrong to call myself a Ranger and I'd be taking things away from any real Ranger and Ranger qualified soldiers even if I have some kernel of knowledge. Having said all that I don't get my panties in bunch unless people claim to be something special i.e. some 88M claims to be an Infantryman or IED guy unfortunately something special is being claimed in this case.

Guess I should shelve my plan to claim super SWAT status to sell my books...it's only a slight exaggeration from having worked as a security guard. :D

And that's what civilians don't understand, amongst soldiers much respect is given to rangers and sf to name a few and being a pretender is HEAVILY frowned upon. It is disrespectful and shows the kind of person you are, Mick burger took it a step further and publicly lied and founded his business on those lies. Utterly disgraceful in my opinion.

I know some military guys won't care, but many do.

Soldiers earn the title ranger, and if you haven't earned it... then you don't have the right to claim yourself as one.

Ah hell, I'll buy a copy without the super secret squirrel status.
