Elusive Schrades

Another name for this thread is "The Beautiful Thread"!! What nice knives!!
Here's a repeat picture: Schrade made the serpentine Jack for Primble and for Shapleigh, as well as themselves!!
Attractively ground blades made them very desirable!!View attachment 1813931View attachment 1813930
1010, 913, or 294 - doesn’t matter - I love the pattern !   😍 If Belknap contracted for that knife with Schrade during the India Steelworks era, my bet is the 913 would have had the fancier bolster. I have noticed that Belknap seemed to put less emphasis on fancy bolsters around the time that the John Primble Belknap HDW. & MFG. tang stamps appeared. Anyone else notice that ? I am sure there are some exceptions, but, generally they did.☺️

My father in law recently passed and while going through things my wife came across her grandfather’s knives and business cards from when he was a sporting goods salesman. Being the “knife guy” in the family the knives were passed on to me
That is so wonderful to see something he loved and appreciated go to a family member who shares the passion. Congratulations! Beautiful collection.

My first Schrade Walden pickup and it’s a gem. Schrade 2OT… not sure what the bone is on this one, I’m guessing it’s the smooth red bone. I’m pretty new to the vintage and antique knife world, there is so much to learn and I’m hooked. It’s going to be hard to top this one though. I’d love to find a Craftsman in sheepfoot, I hear there pretty rare but I think that’s the case with all the 2OT and 3OT’s…

Schrade called that "Meerschaum Bone"!! It was meant to look how a Meerschaum pipe looked, after years of tobacco staining/burning!!Meerschaum pipe.jpg

Jeff they were hip before their time! That was an actual model that first appeared in the 1934 catalog. It was also available as a barehead knife with cocobolo handles (my knife is covering that part up):
