Elusive Schrades

Thank you Duncan; for showing those outstanding knives.
First the Buck, does it have 301 stamped on the blades?

I have never seen an 8OT like that Red bone knife, does it have any Saw-cut marks on the handle?
However, I believe the Black knife is an older knife.
The match-strike on the Black knife is the same as the early 1962-63?) that came after the 1960-61 Saw-cut bone knives. Ken.

Hi Ken
Sir- my apologies for such a late answer - day off today-doing knife stuff/fix before I work on my Car..
The Buck does not have 301 stamped on the blades - or anywhere in fact, the Sheepsfoot, and Spey both have BUCK stamped on the pile side.

Duncan, those are sublime! What, plleeeeeze, is the number on the larger round bolster stag OT stockman? I simply must have one of those, sometime!

Jeff, to you too Sir, my biggest apologies for such a late answer -I wasnt trying to be rude my friend, extremely busy, I have a day off today - the first thing I thought of was to answer these two questions on this beautiful thread - I love these knives here!
Jeff, the big boy Schrade is the pattern 858 - and is stamped so on the Tang my friend.

Thank you so much, Duncan. 8 5 8 is now stamped on my brain (for what that's worth!) I totally dig any stockman, but the round bolsters and low lying blades really do it for me. And the stag is great, too!

Its my pleasure Jeff, its a monster of a knife! ( please dont ask me to measure it- I have just re-stashed them away ):o

My pick of Williams's Customs -it would be the Red Smooth Bone - its such a sweetheart of a knife, in saying that though Jeff, its really hard to turn your head away from Mr.H's Stag! it really is great!

I believe that the 858s are 4 1/2 inches, though I've seen some report them as 4 5/8. As you can see from my signature, I'm hoping to find out soon for myself. ;)

You really do have a beautiful collection of Schrades, Duncan. Between you and Ken I'm starting to think that the majority of the Schrade empire ended up down under. :grumpy:

I have had the pleasure of seeing some of his collection before. He even shot me some links to even more photos on another forum. Not only does he have a mind blowing collection, but he has more knowledge of Schrade knives than any reasonable person deserves to have on any topic. I am proud to say that one of my knives is now part of his collection.

I just marvel that so many Schrades ended up in that region, and in such good condition. I wonder if there are records anywhere showing how many knives they exported to various countries.

Anyways, I've have a healthy interest in Schrade knives since I learned that my dad carried one in his youth and I thank you all for sharing your collections here for me to peruse.

I have a few in my collection, but nothing horridly elusive, I'm afraid. Some photos:

A small ring opener:

The top two are Schrade Barlows:

An all metal sleeveboard lobster pattern. I have three different variations of this one:

My Grandfather's Schrade peanut, along with another that I found sporting a spearpoint main:

Wow- Dan - you have some VERY nice knives in there Sir.

The Barlows are veeeeery nice! Those Peachseeds are a real treasure.

What a great thread! I have followed it religiously since it started. I would mention that posts of some of the latter-day Schrades might be better served in the Schrade sub-forum. Just sayin....

Thank You guys for your comments and for sharing your lovely knives in this great Thread - Cory, I just looked back and see I didnt reply to your telling me that you had been in contact with Ken and seen his Collection - sorry about that - Man...Ken has a killer collection doesnt he!

Here is a fixed blade that isnt so much hot stuff to you guys, but I have always wanted one of these knives - they almost have hit the nail on the head when it comes to the perfect design for a fixed blde.....i say almost because the next knife I see I fall over again:o, but from what we gathered in the Schrade Collectors Forum this is a 80's version of the good Ol' Old Timer 165....

The Sheath is Mint but the last owner stored the knife on top of the Sheath - with the Retainer ring fastened around the handle - so therefore the oil off the blade stained the Sheath :grumpy: - but hey...could be worse :)

Here is a knife that was sneakily put into a box of knives that came my way from a Mr Paul Hilborn....
Well, in this package Paul had put up with me sending knives to him - so he could have the honour  of resending them to me - (some sellers dont like to ship overseas )...Paul Sir I thank you so very much for doing that for me I find it hard to say in words how much I appreciate your help.
back to the story.....
Paul slipped in this knife that ...well it kinda had me a bit speechless, there were two knives from two guys who have helped me out so much in the past - and I hate to admit it...I had a few tears well up - I sat the knives in front of me, and I imagined what it must have been like to slip these knives in a package and send them away, the other knife will be in another thread, but please forgive my photos - I didnt have my glasses with me when I took these photos, and it shows.......
Pauls lovely Jigged Bone Jack, Schrade Walden NY USA, PERFECT in every way, this knife still walks and talks like a brand new knife, and what a beautiful Main Blade a long pull Swedged Spearpoint in stunning condition, as is the wee Pen, this knife is so beautifully finished....these guys knew how to make a knife......

Just beautiful......

Such generosity will never be forgotten my friend.

Duncan, you know I like fixed blades and that 165 is a gem:thumbup: In regards to that lil Jack...there were no second thoughts, regret or sting sending that your way. What eliminates any of that is knowing who the recipient is;) I am proud that I can add to your collect AS WELL as you adding to my collection:thumbup:

You fail to mention my friend the EXTREME generosity you've shown me and soooo MANY others here on this forum:thumbup: You and I discussed this as we don't keep count as to who gifts who what or how often...we are more than even and I feel I may need to ante up on my end;)

Seriously though that knife is know able to be displayed like it deserves:thumbup:

I agree, Paul. There are few, if any, more deserving than Duncan.

Great Jack Duncan, and a very nice FB too. Great to see another act of generosity between you two great fellers :)

The acts of generosity impress the hell out of me. I have been the recepient of some hard to find reloading dies from an avid big bore shooter. No knives, but that's okay. I don't even put my name in the hat for the GAWs for the most part. I figure others who might be more needy are better recipients of such things.

Your description over the phone didn't prepare me for this one, Duncan! There are no words adequate! It's just exquisite!!
Wow!!

Nice one Duncan. Schrade wins the award for bone jigging and color. Not to mention the quality and design.
