I'm not sure about anyone else, but I would be SO all over that.:cool:

Hmmmm I am not exactly sure I would be... other then "totally KEWL" factor, what exactly are you going to use it for....? The arrowheads I can actually picture in use... the spearhead.... ?

Dress up in a loin cloth and chase stuff through the woods with it!

Sigh.... most of the mental images that happened with this post were very unpleasant... but it worked well for Mrs Shotty and ShawnaTX :D

A field-expedient means of self defense, a hunting tool (easier to construct than a bow in the field--make the spear first! The bow can come later) and if the design was done right it could be used as a trowel/foraging tool. The ability to attach a shaft to it would simply give you shovel-like leverage for breaking up tough or root-filled soil. The American 1873 trowel bayonet is a good example of this.

Make it with that blade only without the bend, and put a real socket on it and you could have a nice multi-purpose design that wasn't too complicated.

Though that may be outside the scope of something RAT would want to do, it's something I'd be pretty interested in. :D

Good post, FortyTwoBlades. I agree.

Oh I get the idea of using a spear, and I liked your post.... But unless you are living off the wilds someplace.....? It does make for a very cool specialty item.

And you forgot the part about the loin cloth and swing from trees.....

I like things that are multi-use and useful. I think a "spear" could be made in such a way to have more than a single use.

Man I like these, these would be great for in my wallet, I like the idea that they could be multi used as a striker. Great idea!

I agree!

Another possible use would be using it similarly to a machete for those folks that like to travel light. It may have a striking area about the size of an axe, with less mass, but that means that it's more packable and you can quickly and easily make as long of a handle as you want, shifting the mass forward for a massive increase in force multiplication. Perhaps a lashing hole or two could even be but in the blade so that it could be hafted like a rather pointed 'hawk. This could be useful as a mattock or for chipping ice, or other similar tasks. Who knows--it might even work ok on larger logs!

It could also be used as an ice auger for those of us in the northern wilderness who might find a need to ice fish. Set it up on a short shaft and use it on open ice like a bow drill. Or used in a similar fashion to make a water container by using it end-on on a section of a log?

You mean like a tomahawk, not a machete?

But, no, I just wanted a spear head, a damn spear head that isn't junk metal and isn't trying to be something else.

As for uses. . .some of us do hunt wild pigs with spears, by choice, just like some of us do hunt them with long knives. And yes, for survival, it's easier to make a spear than a bow - by a long way. If you make a fairly short haft, you can swing it like a machete (think spear with a 12" haft) for cutting, although that would be secondary.

No. I meant like a machete. I made the diagram only for illustrative purposes of mounting it like a 'hawk. Not really a necessary feature by any stretch (and I'd probably prefer it without it) but it was one simple way of adding a feature by drilling one simple hole. :)

Exactly. We're on the same page there. For "multipurpose" I think that weapon, chopper, and spade is a pretty solid combo without having to do a thing to "funk it up.":thumbup:

But...maybe I'm not understanding what you're saying ( just got home from having my big toe nail ripped out and acid put on it to kill the nail root, and I'm chasing vicodin with scotch (it's safe to drink with narcotic painkillers, right? Well, if I don't log on later, it's because I didn't get up and am dead. With that being said. . .)...I mean I want it shaped like a spear head, no bend like a trowel, no round "socket" handle. A spear head (shaped almost exactly like the pic of the arrowhead, but scaled up). Sure, you could grab the shank and use it like a knife, or wrap the shank, or put a short haft on it. But it would be making due with a spear head in lieu of a knife.

Am I making sense? It makes sense to me. Johnnie Walker Black makes everything make sense.

Who are you and what the hell are you doing in my thread that Jeff started?? ;)
