First Look - Kershaw Echelon

Prez nailed it.... the price point on this one will be darned affordable. Another point is that this is a departure knife. Kershaw's focus on in-house disigns lately have led to more of a something for everyone sorta thing. Will this knife be for those with more traditional sensibilities, not likely.... However, it does fill a nice for a very stylish, slightly extroverted, something you ain't seen before kinda knife. I think this one will find a many a home in the pockets of the 18-30 set. The brash new design language should catch some eyes and lure in lifers ;)... the Ken Onion designs did that to me 10 years ago.... If you recall, it was pretty radical too. This should be a hit and I would love to see some variation on it in the future..... also for you forzen mucus haters....I paid extra for this...No accounting for taste, I guess LOL ;)

This knife is really a thing of beauty!

I love the looks of the echelon and also traditional knives

I feel the echelon has a futuristic almost alien look and the hole in the blade for the thumb-stud means I can attach a zip-tie and make it a wave

Here I was thiking the Echelon was coming soon - I saw on a knife retail site with an estimated release date of 08/01/2011, man, I hope that is wrong and its sooner..

Really a neat looking knife.

I do wish it had the same color backspacer , but can live with an open frame.

So glad to hear it's not going to be that typical horrid beadblast. ( sorry Kershaw ! I love you guys but beadblast is a terrible finish IMO for various reasons )

The grinds on that knife are fabulous !

Im pretty broke so my must-have list for 2011 is only the HEST folder, the lion spy, and the TRANSLUCENT G10 echelon:)

I assume that the site (I know which one you're talking about) is putting 8/01 to keep people from gettting all pissy if it takes slightly longer than when they actually expect the knives to arrive.

You know, I wasn't digging the Echelon design when I saw it at Shot Show but after seeing these pics I'm warming up to it. I might actually pick one up-- I like the translucent scales and the pocket clip looks awesome.

I can't find a post on that, could you clarify? I agree with you, this knife needs either a satin or polished stonewash finish.

Just like to say I think this thing is great! I have one on pre-order. Good job on making some thing different kershaw. Thomas, is the production version going to have the same blade finish I.E. the belt finished hollow ground part, or will it have some other finish. I love the way it looks in your pics. Hope it doesn't end up bead blasted.

Great looking knife in all scales shown but the Assisted Opening is a deal breaker for me. I know AO is pretty much all the rage today but it's not for me. Any chance of bringing out this knife with the choice of AO or non-AO?

Since we have your attention, when are you going to bring back the Kershaw (KAO) 1050 Folding Field?

Thanks for all of Kershaw's products. Pretty much top-notch across the board.
